“Traditonal European hotel service at its best”

Beautifully positioned at the lake of Lugano, benefiting from sunshine the whole day (even in January), and run in the best hotel tradition Europe used to be famous for. Interiors are between traditional and chintzy, not trendy. Rooms and lay-out are spacious and generous. The breakfast buffet was not the oh-so-awful chain of hotels standard, but truly regional, international and high quality all at the same time. The staff in the breakfast area would be a credit to any 5* hotel in London or New York. Multi lingual and courteous - helping an elderly lady into her coat before she knew she would have a problem ! Only fault - hotel is overheated !!

Room Tip: Hotel offers free pick up from airport or train station !

Thank you for sharing such a nice review about your “Splendide Experience”.
Your remarks seem to really match the philosophy of our hotel, a Belle Epoque palace overlooking the lake of Lugano, providing the personalized service of the European grand hotels of the past, while carefully taking into consideration the needs of today’s guests.
We have taken note of the heating issue and will ensure it will be comfortable for our guests in the future.

“Superb service but some rooms need refreshing.”

The personnel in the bar and restaurant are fantastic.... However the rooms are tatty and need refurbishment especially at the rates charged per night!!!! But the view is utterly wonderful and they serve THE BEST CLUB SANDWICH I have ever ever had!!!

“Great location with beautiful walks along the lake”

Luxury at all levels. The heritage wing is the place to be with quaint balconies overlooking the lake. Breakfast is outstanding even if the service a bit slow. The restaurants is a fine dining place. Staff very friendly, with fluency in English. Expensive.

As you correctly pointed out the hotel is divided into two wings, and all the rooms facing the lake offer an equally enchanting view of the lake. Our restaurant La Veranda where you enjoyed dinner also offers breathtaking views in an elegant ambiance and here our Chef recommends dishes from the contemporary Italian cuisine.

“nice place in lugano.one of the best”

nice hotel in the alps.we stayed in july for 4 days.i prefer milan,just an hour south of lugano but okay.nice place to relax. swiss hotelery noy at its best bust satisfactory.600us a day.too expensive.small rooms.kind of outdated. breakfast extra.nice view.friendly but sterile staff.smiling forbidden apparently. good food but very expensive. you should try polenta with pigeon.(70us) really good. icecream even better ! take a champagne to the room and enjoy it in company ! gorhgeous views.will be back. (i liked villa sassa better,cheaper and more elegant inside)

Thank you for sharing your review about the Hotel Splendide Royal with other travellers.
I am glad you could experience the friendliness of our staff and enjoy the beautiful views from your room, which are always one of the highlights of our guests’ experience.
On the other hand, I was a bit surprised about some of your remarks as they don’t seem to reflect the real image of the hotel. For instance the room size is fairly large for the standards of Swiss hotels and in line with other luxury hotels of the same rating, and similarly is the price of an overnight stay. Our rich buffet breakfast which is highly appreciated by our guests, as many Tripadvisor reviewers have also commented on, is in fact not extra but included in the room rate.
We look forward to welcoming you back again in one of your future visits to Lugano.
