We stayed for 2 nights and found the hotel very historic with lots of history but very comfortable. A very nice selection for breakfast. The pool was ice cold but we were not there to swim. It was within walking distance to the boat dock, shopping and outdoor restaurants. A bit of hike with luggage from the train station after taking the funicular down if you aren't very good at walking but we did not have a problem. We also walked to the Monte San Salvatore funicular which was about 20 minutes. Also, at the other end of the promenade was a beautiful park area with beautiful flowers and great lake views. We took the boat to Morcote which is lovely and I would recommend anyone go there for an afternoon visit.

The hotel was picked by the Swiss Holiday Co. for my stay during a week long conference in Lugano ! It was the perfect base for the conference- taking place at the Congress Centre and the Universita, as well as for being in the jheart of the city . Other colleagues had chosen to come back to this hotel, specifically, for this year's conference. Everything was walking distance; Near to beautiful shops, restaurants and the piazza and overlooking the lake ! The hotel was absolutely lovely; full of grace and charm! All amenities were superb - the service superb - the ambience superb. The breakfast buffet is outstanding ! The perfect place to stay in Lugano ! I will come again !

This hotel lays to the fact that it is over 100 years old and has a heritage to accompany that. I'm truth the hotel is tired and the rooms in particular are in dire need of an upgrade. If 1965 bathroom chic is your thing then you are in luck! The location is excellent with Louis Vitton as your neighbour however (trust me) no one from this hotel is shopping there! The pool area was grim, the breakfast buffetmade for a volume Market...all in all this hotel was very poor. Incredibly expensive for what it is... Our room had a great view over the lake but at 310 cf per night we could have stayed in several classier hotels just a few minutes walk away. Please, do yourself a favour and do not stay at this hotel, it was (for us) incredibly disappointing.

We stayed a week in this 3 Star Swiss Hotel and were delighted. It is an absolute gem of a hotel, with lots of character and the staff to go with it. That said, if you are member of the "Hoorray Henry Brigade" there are plenty of other hotels which may suit you better.

But, if you like Italian food, good wine, helpful and experienced staff who actually know what they are doing, an ideal location, spotlessly clean rooms, and a bill that will leave you wondering how on earth you spent so little, this is your the hotel.

Don't fly into Lugano, but travel by train from Zurich and see civil engineering to die for!
