“Charming and a Great Find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

My husband and I stumbled upon this gem while travelling through Locarno on our honeymoon! The price was right, as was the location. We loved that we were able to stroll into the city and leave our car parked at the hotel.

Breakfast was great, and definitely had something available for everyone. Service was friendly and we had everything we needed! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Locarno and at the Schlosshotel!

“Charming hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2010

Locarno - a must in each travel to the Ticino. To make your stay even more charming and unforgetable the Hotel Castello can be a good choice. At the end of the old town and up on a hill you can have with your room a comfortable base for city walks and shopping. Also going out is nice with the 5 minutes footwalk to the Piazza Grande. The railwaystation is not next door to the hotel so with a lot of luggage a Taxi will be recommended. Anyway the best way for transportation is a cabriot! The hotel is held by a familiy l think so not a lot of staff. For full business related services it would be recommended to stay in an other hotel. For leisure and vacations a good choice!

“Hotel okay, but service bad”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2009

The hotel itself is okay, but the service was more like that from hostel.
One cannot check in later than 9pm! We had to stay in another hotel for the first night as we were arriving late around 12am. We were told that this the "policy of the hotel"! An alternative was not provided. Good, the parking space was helpfull, but had to be paid. The soap/ shampo is only given for the first day ("a welcome gift"). We had to beg for more. You are also not allowed to have anythings else on the 'mimibar' form outside - medicine was the only exception. There were many more policies all pointed out accross the hotel via small laminate notices - one had the feeling that the porter/ concierge did not want to interfere with the guests and everything was told by these little 'hints'.

“Old and Friendly”

We spent 5 days at the Schloss and found it delightful. The location was perfect for getting around Locarno; the breakfasts were good, except for the pink hard-boiled eggs, but the coffee was excellent; the beds were comfy; it was quiet and serene. We will go again!

“a great find”

My husband and I just came across this hotel while driving through the old town of Locarno. I noticed the private entranceway first and could glimpse parking spaces, a rarity in any touristy town in the Ticino. This hotel is part of the old castle. It's a trifle shabby, but delightfully so, with lots of charm. Our large room had a canopied bed and a nice view of the old town, and the bathroom was a good size and had a window. The advantages of staying here are ample parking, a lift, and a reasonable price. We loved the drawing room, which is done in a grand old manor style, with a big fireplace. It practically invites you to sit and read an Agatha Christie with a glass of port. The garden is wild and unkempt and lovely, with a pool and scented roses. Breakfast was okay, and the bread was especially good. The best thing about staying here was that we had a good night's sleep--no noise from other rooms or street noise, since it's set well back. We found a great restaurant, Boccalino, on Via della Motta, which was just outside the hotel, a minute away. We were in the Ticino nearly a week and this was our favorite hotel.
