“Great For Kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2010

This place was a pleasant surprise. We stayed only one night as we were making our way back to Geneva. Too bad we didn't stay longer. The hotel is in a great location, just a 10 minute walk to train station. The room was a great size for a family of four. Best of all, they had a family room with toys and books for the kids to play with on the first floor. The Breakfast was excellent.

“Clean, comfortable hotel, shame about the noisy road!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2009

The hotel was clean and comfortable, with excellent food (we were on half board). The hotel was well positioned for the train station, town centre and lake. However, it was also positioned on a very busy, noisy road which made sleeping extemely difficult. We stayed during an very hot, humid period. Our room was at the front corner of the hotel and with windows open the noise from the road was unbearable. However, if we closed the windows (which dulled the noise), the room became like a sauna. The fan supplied did not help enough, and I found it too noisy to sleep with. After a change of rooms (we moved to the rear, with no balcony), we did find it easier to sleep, with the road noise bearable. We felt that although the staff were helpful, we did not feel overly welcome and felt rather uncomfortable about asking for any assistance. We left the hotel with no feelings of regret, unlike other holidays where we have been sad to leave. I do not think that the issue of road noise would be such an issue at a time when you did not need to have the windows open, but would advise future visitors who think they will need the windows open to consider requesting a room at the back, in the hope of actually being able to sleep at night.

“Excellent Hotel close to the Lake”

My Husband and I stayed at the Albergo Camelia in Locarno for a week at the end of August and found the hotel to be far beyond our expectations. The breakfast buffet was very good and the Half Board supplement we paid (through Kuoni) was excellent value for a 4-Course evening meal. Our twin room was on the top floor with a balcony overlooking the lake. The shower/toilet cubicle was very small with the hand wash basin being in the room itself – however, we didn’t find this a problem. The beds and towels/flannels were changed during the week and the room was always spotless. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times.

The Hotel is approx. 8 minutes walk from the Lake and the Railway Station and we loved the area and our evening walks along the lakeside.

We would certainly return to this hotel again.

  • Liked — The good service, lovely food and the Hotel's position near to the railway station and lakeside
  • Disliked — Traffic from the road in front of the Hotel could be a bit noisy at times.

“Sizzling locarno”

We stayed here as our 3rd resort on Kuonis Lakes of Switzerland holiday. We had a great journey to Locarno from Lucerne on the William Tell Express - sailing the length of Lake Lucerne and then travelling on by train. We arrived in blistering heat, and the hotel is about 15 minutes walk from the station. Not a good choice in the heat and all up hill! The hotel is family owned and the owner was welcoming. Our standard room was at the front of the hotel. We shared the terrace with the ajoining 3 rooms, with pots dividing up each room's section. There were 2 chairs, table and umbrella and a lounger. The room was clean and looked newly decorated. We were disappointed that it wasn't bigger. There was a wash basin in the room, and the ensuite shower and toilet had been created by taking off part of the bedroom. Whilst these were very clean, it was a very cramped space. You couldn't dry yourself in the 'bathroom', and anyone who was larger or claustrophobic would find it difficult. There wasn't air conditioning but a fan was provided, and it was on all the time! We left the doors to the terrace open, with the shutters closed and fan on all night. The disadvantage of this was that the hotel is on a busy road, so it was noisy. There is a nice garden at the front, where we ate breakfast and evening meals. Somehow the traffic noise seemd less intrusive there. Meals were good and the waiting staff were friendly and efficient. The hotel seemed well geared up for families, with open access internet use, and a room with toys, books and games.

  • Liked — Clean, nice garden and relaxed atmosphere
  • Disliked — Tiny bathroom, position on noisy road

“Mixed feelings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2008

After reading the reviews my partner and I booked this hotel. The hotel itself was ok, nothing out of the ordinary. Our room was very small and the dark hallway to the room made it feel like we were in a prison (not that I have ever been!!). The bathroom was small with only a shower and the sink was located in the bedroom and not in the bathroom. I will say the room was spotless. So, as far as the room went I was disappointed BUT the view we had from the balcony was amazing and made up for everything.

The breakfast was fine and the staff were friendly. The hotel had parking which was great and the surrounding area is beautiful.
