“Deserves higher ranking!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We stayed at the Monopol for 3 nights and had wonderful experience!

Front desk was professional and helpful especially when we asked to change to a room that doesn't face the main roundabout downstairs. They did that for us immediately without any difficulty. Although I didn't use the spa service, but we took a tour on the 6/F where the facility is at. It was 10pm and we didn't expect anyone to be there, but there stood a cheerful spa receptionist ready to serve once the elevator door opened, we explained we just wanted to take a look and she was absolutely cheerful and welcoming and still introduced the facilities we could use. I've been to other so-called 5/6* resort where spa services charge in triple or more, but Monopol's service at the spa was exceptional at anytime of the day! Wish I had more time to use next time.

The hotel is conveniently located at the centre of the town, right next to the Burcherer shop. Though the reception area is smaller, but the suite / room is spacious, sufficiently equipped as a solid 4* property. Check out the floorplan pic I shared for the better view rooms, in fact, most rooms have good view, but just watch out for the ones facing the roundaround, which could be noisy for traffic. There were bottles of mineral water and a tasty choco cake prepared as treats in the room before we arrived, of coz all hotels in St. Moritz comes with a price, but little things like these tell you your money was well-spent.

Breakfast was good with many hot / cold items to choose from, again service at the hotel restaurant Grischuna was outstanding, I would share more at the restaurant page, but really want to call out the male server and the older lady server at the restaurant. Their dedication and passion to their jobs are hard to find in many 5* hotel, or in the job market these days. Of all the hotel selections in St. Moritz, I really think Monopol deserves higher ranking than the others (tried out restaurants at other higher-ranked hotel but wasn't sold at all!).

Room Tip: Pick higher floor, avoid the 3 rooms on the far right (see picture)

“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This is nice hotel in the center of St Moritz. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful and the rooms nice and spacious and modern. Our only dislike about the hotel was the noise from the street as party goers left the local bars but the hotel does provide ear plugs in the bathroom for guests to use.

“Centre of town, every amenity imaginable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Wonderful hotel, professional, courteous staff answer all your questions and cater to all your needs. Great spa, roof top lounge. WiFi is free. Excellent restaurant (Italian).
Not a cheap hotel, but worth every dollar.

“Great for Our One Night Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

We stayed at hotel Monopol for one night during Dec 2010 as enroute to our scenic train journey on the Glazier Express.

We booked Double Room via Otel.com for 300 Euro's which included breakfast. This is the first time we have used this hotel booking system as it had cheaper rates then Hotel.com

The hotel exceeded our expectations as we did not know exactly what to expect as per the mixed reviews for this hotel, however during our experience we found the following:

PROS:
1. The complimentary train pickup and drop off service was ontime and an excellent service. This also allowed us to not worry about making our own arrangemens.
2. The room was warm and clean. The bathroom was clean and look newly renovated. They also had bedroom slippers and robes (something you dont normally see in a 4 star hotel)
3. Everything worked well along with thier wakeup service
4. Dinner and breakfast in restaurant was excellent. Manager came in and introduced himself during dinner and promptly left. A bit strange but I guess purpose was to make us aware he was there should there be a problem
5. Wakeup call was spot on
6. Reception staff always carried a smile and were willing to help everytime we approached them. From memory they allowed us free internet - I dont recall if there normally is a charge? The staff also spoke good english
7. They took us to a pharmacy to cure our sore throat without extra cost.

CONS
1. Waiting staff in the restaurant spoke minimal english. It was very had to commnunicate simple things. As a result I noticed that they were more reluctant to approach to ask if everything was ok
2. Our room was near the road. You could hear people walking past at 3am in the morning conversing with one another (reason why i have thing this hotel a 4/5)

All in all an excellent stay. This hotel serves well if you planning to be outside the hotel most of your time.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the road

“Not equipped for handicapped”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

There were stairs at every entrance. In most places had to climb at least 15 stairs to get to lobby. Once you get to the lobby there is an elevator that goes to dining room and all hotel rooms. The elevator is quite narrow and a wide wheelchair (if it got to the lobby) might have a problem with the wheelchair and an attendant. Our room had a bathtub with very high sides, but another tour member had a walk-in shower - so if you have a problem with ambulation or flexibility you might want to request a room with the walk-in shower. Free wifi in lobby and bar but there was a charge in rooms. Each room had a refrigerator, well stocked with beverages & snacks (for purchase), and a safe. Room had several electrical outlets for recharging cameras. Food at dinner was attractive and tasty and hot with choice of meat or fish for our tour. Service was prompt. Small gym available w/whirlpool at no cost to hotel registrants. Other spa services available - facials massage, etc. Nice deck with windproof glass in some areas for sitting and enjoying the view. Very close to shopping, restaurants, and funicular.

Room Tip: Since we were on a tour, I can't verify the 'value" since it was included in our tour p...
