Service not up to 5/6 star hotel standards..
Having stayed at Suvretta House in St Moritz Switzerland numerous times over the last 20 years, in the winter and some summers for at least 2 weeks at a time I was shocked at the treatment my husband and I received last winter during our stay.

We usually stay in the same room during our stay, this time it was renovated before we arrived.

We arrived late in the day and opened the windows as the room was hot. We closed them some time during the night as the room had cooled off and fell back to sleep. Around 2AM the fumes from the paint, varnish, carpet were so strong that i could not sleep so i spent the rest on the night in the bathroom and slept on the marble floor, which was very uncomfortable.

In the morning I advised the managing direct of the problem his reply was "this is not my department, talk to my wife". I then went to the front desk and told them what a terrible night we had.

They reluctantly said they could change our room, but not to the same category we were in. They preceded to show us 3 rooms.
the first would cost us more, the 2nd was totally unacceptable and the third on was acceptable, but was had noview.

I had a feeling that we were not the first to complain about the fumes.
When we asked for compensation for our inconvenience we were told that we should have called down to the front desk in the middle of the night and they would have moved us then, so no compensation was due to us.

At check- in there is always fresh fruit and a bottle of water in each room. When the hotel staff reluctantly helped us move our things they moved 1/2 bottle of water and the fruit remaining on the palter, they did not even give us a fresh bottle or fresh fruit. We stayed at the hotel for two weeks and never got additional water or fruit. not even an apology for our inconvenience.

We would have expected more from a 6 star hotel which we have frequented for years.

“Grand old world charme”

I had a business appointment in St. Moritz and decided I would stay at the Suvretta House which has never appealed to me because it lies on the slope of the mountain like a forttress and doesn´t look too inviting. Anyway I wanted to try is and had a meeting with a client nearby and decided I would arrive the evening before and stay an extra night afterwards. I booked a summer special with lunch and dinner included (which is a great buy) and went. The hotel is not pretty from the outside, neither is is from the inside. But it is very elegant although quite old but impeccably kept, the indoor pool is new and the place has everything you expect from a deluxe holiday hotel in old europe. It is very formal (jacket and tie required for dinner) but the staff is very helpful and friendly the clientele is international with a majority from Germany and Switzerland, but also many Americans. The place is more elegant and sophisticated than the other St. Moritz de luxe hotels and probably a great place to spend a vacation with children or may be alone because there are so many things to do throughout the day in terms of sports and spa etc. The food is o.k. but very elegantly served but not great , half board for a longer stay is probably not such a great choice but that´s the only option they give you. If you want old world luxury for o.k. prices then come here for a few days you will not regret it.

“Beautiful Hotel with arrogant staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 March 2010

We had an interesting stay at the top of the season between Christmas and New Years. The hotel is situated right at the bottom to ski slopes so that you can start skiing just when walking out of the hotel. The food was great but beware booking half board since you will be stuck in a lengthy 3 hour dinner every evening. The other restaurant options in the hotel are also very good. The rooms are very nice and enjoyable. They are clean and the size appropriate. The arrogant staff is a real problem though. From the reception to the ski instructors it is a disaster. The ski instructor couldn't care less about having a student and skied for himself. If you come to the hotel from outside and you are not a hotel guest people will not even allow you to sit in the lobby. Rather you get treated like an intruder and they try their best to make outsiders feel uncomfortable. Do not invite friends over to this hotel! Also interesting was that they seem to make quite an effort to keep non western Europeans or Americans out around Christmas and New Years. While you have a nice mix of people at other 5 star hotels in St. Moritz here you will find a very homogenious group. Overall the hotel was nice but I couldn't look beyond the consistently arrogant behavior of the staff. The hotel is not close to St. Moritz, but they have a shuttle bus. I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you manage to find a place in the Badrutt Palace, Kulm, Carlton or even Kempinski

“tired and overpriced, stolen items not acknowledged or returned”

We stayed for about a week and while they appear to have all the amenities possible, the so-called ski in ski out is only through the junior ski school i.e. bunny hill and slow rope(!) lift. The lift shuts down at lunch for example, and one has to take one's ski's off to cross a road to ski out at any time. Mostly Russian and German tourists. It seems the Swiss know better and stay elsewhere. Much more authentic experiences available. to top it all off a 10,000 dollar watch disappeared from my room and there has been no compensation nor apology whatsoever, as if I made it up somehow....even though we filed a police report, which police seem to be on the Hotel's side . Definitely would not stay there again. Past its prime and trading on its old reputation.
