“Simply The Best”

Stayed at the Waldhotel for the first time February 2010 whilst on a family skiing holiday.

We knew we'd made the right choice as soon as we saw the location and as we were each handed a glass of champagne on arrival in the Reception area.

We'll definately be returning to the Waldhotel should we ever go skiing in that part of Switzerland again.

“Well worth the walk up the hill!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2011

My husband and I stayed here for a week in mid December as he was in Davos on business and I wanted a nice hotel where I could relax while he was in meetings. I did a lot of research on-line about the various hotels in Davos and choose the Wald Hotel based in the website information and location. We arrived by train from Zurich and proceeded to The Promenade to catch the FREE public transit to the nearest stop for our hotel. With our luggage in tow, we began the 10 minute STEEP climb up the hill to the hotel. It was totally worth the effort as the hotel has the best vantage point in all of Davos. We had requested a suite and we were not disappointed. Our room was nothing less then spectacular with expansive views of the town and valley from our huge deck, complete with two lounge chairs and blankets. The bathroom was equally as large with a separate tub and walk-in shower with multiple rain heads and body sprays. Heavenly!! The hotel staff knew us both my name by the second day and were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The pool area and steam room were excellent and very well maintained. There are even bath robes and slippers in your room to wear to the pool!
We consider ourselves to be seasoned travelers and usually stay in 5-star hotels, so we were pleasantly surprised with the quality and comfort at the Wald Hotel
I cannot say enough great things about our stay. It was magical!!

“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2010

I knew I was going to like this hotel when we were met by lovely receptionists who gave us glasses of Prosecco!!! Our room (a superior) was spacious with a great balcony with a day bed and blanket. The pool (a salt water thalassotherapy pool with massage jets) was relaxing and clean and the sauna, steam room etc well maintained and a great experience. (Robes and slippers provied in the room) Breakfast included a variety of continental and American elements and the hotel had great views of the mountains around Davos.

Pros
Warm welcome and generally lovely staff
Comfortable rooms
Relaxing spa
Great breakfast

Cons
Steep hill down to Davos which could be a problem if mobility impaired (or just unfit)
Need to pre-order dinner if dining in

“Zufrieden mit Murmeltieren”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2010

We stayed with my partner and his mother 4 nights at Waldhotel in a junior suite with a connecting single room standard. My remarks concern the junior suite: it is quite awesome! Very spacious, luminous, has a huge terrace(view to the city), with the traditional deckchairs (one can also buy them at the reception), modern furniture, comfortable bed, very nice, light bathroom with special rainshower - we enjoyed it a lot.
We have found 2 thing not properly functioning: the digital scale didn't work at all, and the Bose sound system wasn't tuned well.
Food: breakfast quality is above expectation, but the choice could be wider. We were on half-board: dinner is ok, but nothing special, sometimes I hardly found anything I like. We also wanted to try the Mann und Co restaurant on the last evening, but it was fully booked in advance, I am very sorry.
Unfortunately we did not have the time to test the wellness area, because everyday we chose a mountain to go up with the ski-lifts. All were very nice, but Parsenn s the best: it is the highest in Davos, and also the place where we have seen the marmots :-)
Staff: they were very kind, sometimes made small mistakes (room service).
It is quite a quiet place, most of the guests were elderly people.
I missed a bit more references to Thomas Mann, as we went there because of the Zauberberg.
And be well prepared: it is not a cheap place at all, as neither is the city and the whole country. But once it is worth to try it.

“The unforgettable experience of a lifetime!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 February 2009

As a profound fan of skiing, I’ve visited many resorts around the globe in order to indulge in my favorite past time. This was my first trip to the Swiss Alps and without exception my best experience to date! Clearly my stay at the Waldhotel Davos was the primary contributing factor in making my visit so memorable. If there was ever a hotel property that made you feel welcome – The Waldhotel is it! Largely in part because of it’s proprietors – Barbara and Michael Thomann. The lovely couple responsible for the management of the hotel are every bit the “heart and soul” of this beautiful luxury property. From the moment of my arrival I was treated as if I was the most important guest the hotel had ever seen. And when one realizes that many celebrities and important political figures have previously occupied these lavish rooms, one can’t help himself but to feel “very special”. From the front desk personnel to the porters, the all around service was exceptional and truly unique. Even the juicy apples at the front desk are a delight in the middle of the winter. After a long journey from the States, I was spoiled with a dinner which alone made the trip already worth while. The food was delightful and the meals were prepared to perfection by chefs which clearly understand the definition of “Gourmet Dining”. Even down to the cheeses (which anyone visiting Switzerland doesn’t want to miss), everything each day was presented to me in a flawless manner. One of the key experiences in residing at the Waldhotel Davos is a trip to the hotels wine cellar. There you’ll find the truly rare and unique tastes the world has to offer. And through the highly experienced guidance of the hotels director, Mr. Michael Thomann, you can rest assured a full satisfaction of your palate. Mr. Thomann knows his wines like no one else I’ve ever met. And he’ll make sure that you’ll enjoy every drop to the finish. I never thought spending time in a wine cellar could be this much fun. Back in my luxuriously decorated suite, a little tipsy from a bottle of Opus One, I spread out in one of the comfortable lounge chairs and enjoyed the breathtaking views over Davos and its surrounding mountains. Nowhere else have I ever felt this type of serene tranquility and peace. No wonder the hotel was once famous for its healing properties to the very sick. Thomas Mann, a famous German Author which wrote the book “Der Zauberberg” (The Magic Mountain), spent long hours here probably pondering the same things that overcame me that night. There is something about this hotel that makes staying there a truly unforgettable experience. As the only hotel in Davos offering a “Sole Bad” (Saltwater Swimming Pool), one can enjoy countless hours in the hotels Spa area and tender to sore muscles by relaxing in the pool, the sauna, or one of its steam baths. And should you desire the gourmet experience of a lifetime, stop by at the hotels famous restaurant “Mann & Co.”. There you can indulge in lavish 3, 4, or 5 course meals that will leave your heart undesired. Another “must” experience at the Waldhotel. And again, something Mr. Thomann manages to perfection. Overall I can only recommend this truly unique property to travelers from around the world. It doesn’t matter where you come from, you will feel right at home at the Waldhotel Davos. My rating: 6 Stars for the Hotel and a perfect 10 for its proprietors!
