When we arrived, it was already late, dark, rainy, and we were extremely tired. Perhaps that's why we initially thought the neighbourhood seemed a bit sketchy (driving past a boarded-up construction site not far from the hotel didn't help) and the hotel looked a bit plain from the outside.
However, initial impressions can be deceptive, and this was the case here. When we walked in, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and, in fact, produced our first surprise of the evening - we were upgraded to a Junior Suite at no charge. As we found out the next morning, the view from its spacious balcony was absolutely stunning.
The suites themselves are well appointed, too, and the bathrooms are especially nice. The only (very minor) caveat for us was that the pillows were much too soft, but putting a provided bathrobe underneath solved the problem.
Our next pleasant surprise was the included free breakfast. We expected the regular fare - but the selection and the quality were just outstanding. This was quite possibly the best buffet breakfast we've had anywhere, and sitting at a table with a magnificent view of the mountain valley Davos is located in was a nice finishing touch. You get no pre-packaged, standard products in the breakfast - everything seems to be gourmet/hand picked, and feels as if it came from a high-end restaurant. We even had a selection of fish, including salmon, for breakfast!
If we're ever back in Davos, we'd be strongly inclined to stay at Waldhotel again - it was a very pleasant and memorable experience.
Like:
- Incredible view from a large, spacious balcony with recliners.
- The best buffet breakfast we've had anywhere.
- Very friendly and courteous staff.
- Well-appointed suites and bathrooms.
(Minor) Dislike:
- Pillows were too soft.
- The heaters were very unusual to us, and a quick note in English on how to adjust them would be helpful. :)
Room Tip: Go for a room with a view of Davos, you won't regret it. :)
