My husband & I have just returned to London from a week's ski-ing staying half-board at the family run, 150+ year old Fluela Hotel, right opposite the railway station in Davos Dorf. We really could not recommend the service & cuisine highly enough - & we like to think we have exacting standards. The buffet breakfasts & six-course dinners were an experience - consistently excellent, Italian waiters friendly, sophisticated, highly professional. Extensive wine list but expensive by English standards, sometimes 3x the price. Staff greeted us by our names & were always friendly, the classy & delightful owner of many years, Herr. Gredig, appearing on our arrival and chatting on our departure. Our south facing, spacious, fourth floor room was spotlessly clean, beds extremely comfortable, new linen every other day, decor slightly dated by London standards. We asked for a permanent kettle & cups in our room for tea-making which duly arrived but was not standard. There must have been a wonderful south-facing view down the valley once now sadly obscured by a modern apartment block (not obtrusive) but our small, south-facing balcony still got plenty of sun. East facing rooms overlooking main drag & station might not be peaceful due to traffic. The hotel is the closest to the piste down from the main Davos ski area, Parsenn, perfect if you don't like walking with skis, etc. Free internet was a bonus. Pianist in bar/lounge before dinner. Didn't go down to pool or spa as too busy skiing. Relaxing, peaceful, comfortable, spacious but not particularly plush or luxurious by city/London standards. If you like unpretentious small to medium sized family run hotels (this one has about 80 rooms) I would recommend the Fluela without hesitation & look forward to returning. Absolutely worth the £200 per person per week extra we had to pay for the 5-star priviledge.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The owner was quite attentive, as were almost everyone. He spoke to us by name and inquired how we were each time we saw him.

The restaurant inside was to die for. Pretty pricey, again, but we ate there both nights we stayed in Davos and the Maitre d' /head waiter (I guess she would be) was absolutely wonderful in her suggestions and attentiveness.

We enjoyed the sauna and steam room. The indoor pool was OK, nothing particularly special, except the windows gave a nice view of a light snow fall which was nice.

The petite dejeuner was nothing exceptional but it was adequate.

We seldom stay at 5 star hotels; I would recommend this hotel, but I would recommend the restaurant even more.

When we arrived at the hotel, the staff immediately came out to greet us followed by the owner. They were so warm and friendly throughout our stay. The food was lovely and the hotel conveniently located. When we left, the owner made the effort to come out and made sure everything was sorted. We had a lovely time and would definitely go back again!

This was our second visit to the Fluela, but the first trip for our children (14 and 12). As you arrive in DAvos Dorf station the porters are waiting to carry your luggage across the road and the service was of a similarly high standard throughout our stay. The owner of the hotel (which has been in the family for, I believe, over 100 years) greeted us as we arrived in the hotel and is totally charming. The hotel is brilliantly situated close to the main Parsenn train and even closer to the end of the ski run back to Davos.

There is a wonderful pool and spa, complete with outdoor hot tub and various menthol, salt and steam rooms, plus a sauna. We did not have a massage but understand it is very good.

The food in the restaurant is very good with an extensive buffet for breakfast. We ate in the Stubli (extra cost) which was fabulous, albeit expensive!

Free access to computers was a bonus.

We had two fantastic rooms which were in a wing of the hotel. A wonderful touch was the children returning on Easter Sunday to a basket with two large chocolate rabbits plus a large supply of small eggs and jelly beans.

We cannot recommend the Fluela highly enough - it is expensive but comparable price wise with other hotels of this standard.
