I decided to take advantage of a last minute special offer rate at this property to go skiing in Davos with my partner. The hotel location next to the lifts is excellent and suited our purpose well. I booked a room in the historic wing of the property and on arrival was pleasantly surprised to find the room featured a nice little balcony. The front desk staff was friendly, as were the waitresses at the Paulaner’s Restaurant where we had dinner. The quality of the food at dinner and breakfast was good and the selection excellent, although we would have expected fresh (not frozen) meat to be served with our dinner choice of fondue Chinoise. The same goes for the fruit basket in our room which contained fruit of questionable freshness (not foul but stale at best) – a fruit basked is certainly nice, but if the quality of the fruit cannot match expectations I would rather not have one at all. As for the room furnishing, it seemed somewhat dated - I do not remember when I last stayed at a Starwood property which still featured cathode ray tube televisions instead of modern flat screens. The bedding was also below Starwood average with saggy pillows and a blanket that was so electro statically charged that it sparked on every turn throughout the night. In conclusion I would stay at this hotel again due to the location and friendly staff, but I would not be willing to pay the full price of a non discounted room unless the property were to undergo a significant refresh, along the lines of other Sheraton properties.
