stayed here for 3 nights as part of great railway journeys trip. hotel staff friendly and good location in the centre of town. breakfasts were very good with selection of cold meats/cheeses, cereals rolls and cooked eggs, bacon and sausages. rooms were large, but pillows were far too soft, and duvet covers strange and scratchy. no fan in room, so became quite hot to sleep especially as we had to keep the windows closed to prevent the sound of nearby church bells keeping us awake. smallish bar area but smoking lounge at front of hotel meant that the smell of smoke sometimes drifted into other areas. ok for short stay - we were only really in the hotel to sleep and eat as our train trips took up most of the day. 2 evening meals provide by the hotel - well cooked but portions very small - no wonder the Swiss are so thin! Use the local Co-op supermarket to buy chilled wine each night if you fancy a drink before your evening meal- much cheaper than hotel prices, about 3.50CF for a small bottle, also great for filled baguettes if you are going out for the day.

We chose this hotel because it was within walking distance of the train station and because we could easily walk to restaurants. Unfortunately, people were talking loudly in the street late into the night, and started again at 4:00 in the morning. We stopped for a cocktail in the bar, where the bartender was barely polite and went and sat with friends at a table after serving us. A gin and tonic and a Remy Martin on the rocks (a short pour) was 21 francs (about 26 US dollars.) The breakfast was OK, but nothing special.

This hotel is just in the center of the old town of Chur an exquisite town. It has character and very stylish. Breakfast cant be better. Rooms large and comfy.
But in this era it has no wifi anywhere in the hotel. The bathroom is large but the only soap dispenser is by the bath so when you wash your hands you have to go near the bath for the soap. The bath tub could never be filled since the water from the tap has no pressure at all especially the cold water...
There is also no concierge and after 11 p.m. the hotel closes and you have to use a key to enter the hotel..
I never met the hotel staff after my check in...

Now called Ambient Hotel Freieck. Well situated in the heart of the Altstadt. An easy walk from the station. Our room comfortably accommodated a family of 4 and was on the 5th floor with an incredible view over the town. Good breakfast.
