“A Gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

We are a family of 4 with children aged 3 and 7 years. Hotel Astoria was the perfect "home" away from home for us on our ski holiday. It is charming, clean, friendly, convenient, comfortable and provides a delicious breakfast buffet as well as an amazing 5 course meal at night. Quite honestly we could not have asked for anything more and as so many others have commented, Edith and Oliver are the absolute best Inn Keepers we have ever come across. They were professional yet warm and inviting and made us feel at home from day 1. We even ran into a problem with our daughters snow boots and they gave us a pair of their son's to use! Their pleasant and gracious hospitality provide a great role model for the rest of the staff who are all outstanding. It was heart warming to see how happy everyone is to work there.

We were there the week between Christmas and New Year and we felt like we had one celebration after the other. Starting off with the Christmas Gala Dinner, followed by a traditional Swiss night, a 70s Hippy Night, Sledding and Raclette.....every night something new and fun.

We also loved the fact that the hotel is small but includes a diverse clientele of couples, young families, local Swiss and international. It was evident that everyone staying there was as happy as we were!

We absolutely look forward to a return someday!!

“Absolutely a must stay in Arosa!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

As lovely as the view was in Arosa (Dec 2011), staying in Astoria was the icing on the cake. Me, my husband and daughter (3 1/2 year old) enjoyed our 4 days in Arosa so much! Edith and Oliver were ever so warm, friendly and accomodating. All the staffs were! English was well spoken and the 5 course meal varied everyday. It was delicious and the deserts can make any sweet tooth scream in delight. It was worthy of a 5 star gourmet. The rooms are clean, bathroom super clean and spacious , and the balcony did have a great view. Beds were super comfy and was a great place to relax after a tiring day skiing. The nice fireplace at the lobby always greeted us and warmed our frosted nose and toes. :D And, the Raclette is a must try! This is a great hotel for family, couples and family with young kids. The jacuzzi had a breathtaking location.....snow outside while u jacuzied away in the warm. *heaven!* . Also available is a great gym and kids playroom. and the location is not far from the railway station and shops n free bus services to kulm n other ski/sleigh areas. Perfect , perfect, perfect. Thank you Astoria!

“Lovely welcoming family friendly hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Enjoyed a lovely pre-Xmas skiing break at the Astoria. The owners are incredibly welcoming and very hospitable and it makes for a very comfortable, relaxed experience. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the food was of a very high standard with 5 courses offered each evening with a meat, fish and vegetarian main meal option.
Certainly lives up to the previous reviews and we would definitely return.

“Like home, but better”

As the first destination on our trip to Switzerland in August, the Hotel Astoria was a welcome landing spot for our weary and jet-lagged family of four. From the moment we arrived, when Frau Schmid took one look at us and invited us to go nap in our rooms before checking in, we were extremely well taken care of. We had reserved a family room, which was actually a suite including a small sitting room, two bedrooms, and a good-sized bathroom, all comfortably and thoughtfully furnished. Located on the ground floor at the back of the hotel, it was completely quiet and felt very private, with plenty of windows and a door out to a rear patio with seats and a pleasant view – part neighboring building, part mountains and trees. The setup was ideal for a family.

Breakfasts were tasty, the lounge was attractive, the location was convenient, the hot tubs were soothing after a day of mountain walking – but what set the Astoria apart for us was the effort that Edith and Oliver Schmid and their staff put into their hospitality. From helpful personal advice about what to see and where to eat, to the offer of a thermometer and crackers when my son got sick, to arranging for us to stay another night in the suite when we had to change our travel plans, to shipping an item back to the US that we had left in the room (and refusing to let us cover the expense)…their friendly concern for our comfort was evident throughout our stay.

This is a lovely, clean, well-run, small hotel, blessed with awesome natural surroundings and a wonderfully gracious atmosphere.

“Great value for money”

Enjoyed 9 days in Arosa in the late Summer of 2011. The hotel (and weather) helped make it a wonderful stay. This is a family-run hotel with modern, comfortable bedrooms and a very atmospheric dining and bar area. The staff are all super-efficient and friendly and one gets the feeling this is a well-managed place. Make sure you don't get a room underneath the bar area as this can be noisy if you want to get to sleep before 12. I would definitely come back here - perhaps during the winter season: I can imagine its a great place to stay for a week's skiing.
