We stayed here December 26, 2010 through January 2, 2011. It was a quiet location and a great hotel! It looks just like the website shows, so I didn't see any reason to post pictures. The location is perfect, right next to the lifts on the Weisshorn and the gondola to the top. You can easily access the Hörnli by taking the lifts and skiing over to other lifts, or by bus from this location.
The rooms are comfy and warm, with terrific, rustic/modern decor. The bathrooms do have doors (incidentally), plenty of hot water, and the beds are comfortable, but the pillows are a bit too squishy. They are down and flatten easily. You might want to ask for two. I needed a non-down pillow for my husband, and it was delivered promptly, so I had two down pillows which was sufficient. Parking, if you drive, is right next to the building and costs 8 francs per day. Once you park your car, you won't need it until you leave. We walked across town to the Kulm area from here and it only took 10-15 minutes.
Breakfast consists of cheeses and meet, fresh fruit, yogurt, bread, boiled eggs, etc., and terrific coffee. It is attended, so I assume you could ask for something special and it would be brought to you, but we were satisfied with what they offered. It did not change from day to day, so you might get slightly bored with the breakfast menu, but we didn't mind. We never had a problem finding a seat no matter what time we arrived at breakfast, which is served from 8:00-10:30.
The bus stop is a stones throw away from the hotel, and the train station is right in front (no noise from the train). Buses are free until 8:00 p.m., and night buses take you wherever you want to go for 3 francs per person. Just tell the driver and he pulls right up to where you want, like a taxi. The ski path down the Weisshorn travels directly behind the hotel and to the right (although narrow and sometimes slick because of the boarders, so you need to be a good skier to get down this way). It ends practically right at the front door. The ski rental shop is in the same building, and you get your own slots for your skies and boots because you're staying at the hotel, with a key that gets you in after hours if need be. Sleds are available in the ski shop, too.
The restaurant has amazing food, albeit a bit slow service. But if you're not in a hurry, it's highly recommended! Patricia Breede was kind enough to find us a spot at the restaurant even when we did not make reservations (which are highly recommended—the place is packed for lunch and dinner). Great food and wine! Ask for Arosa water and they'll bring it to you in a carafe, instead of paying for bottled. Arosa water is terrific!
As far as deciding on where to stay in Arosa, keep in mind that the path leading from town (the bus stop nearest this hotel) to the Prätschli can be very crowded. Getting on from the bottom of the hill, like we did several times, was great because everyone was getting off the bus to go to the ski lifts. But if you stay on the hill between here and the Prätschli, (like at the Hof Maran) be prepared to have trouble getting on and off the bus, for sledding or skiing. It's very crowded the further the bus goes up. If I knew I was going to be skiing the Weisshorn most of the time, I would try to stay at the Vetter, the Prätschli, or the Valansa. The Kulm is a great choice if you want to ski the Hörnli, and some people say the snow is better over there (I thought it was the same but I'm a beginner skier), but the gondola's take a lot of time to go up and down. The lifts and t-bars are faster and you can get more runs in, if that's what you want. We stuck to the Weisshorn side for the most part.
By the way, high speed internet was easily accessible (no code) and very good. We would definitely stay at the Vetter again and I highly recommend this hotel!
