“Cosy, friendly, chic....great restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

We ate in the Schonegg Hotel in Wengen in Jan 2012. The hotel is pretty from the outside and chic and sophisticated in the inside. The manager greeted us on arrival. The chef then called at our table to introduce himself and guide us through the choices. The menu was excellent, fois grad, scallops, lovely dessert and excellent service. This is without doubt teh best restaurant in Wengen, the food is excellent. We will definately be back!

“How soon can we return?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

We stayed three nights during September and can't wait to return. We stayed in a room with a view of the Jungfrau and you really can't ask for a better view. They will pick you up and drop you off at the train station (though it's really not far from the hotel anyway...). We felt the staff was friendly and was helpful giving us advice on the area and even helped us find the train times to our next destination.

The room itself was very spacious, clean and comfortable beds. Although there wasn't a TV in the room, we didn't mind since we enjoyed listening to the music that was available. Made it more of a relaxing environment. If they had wifi available in the rooms, that would make things perfect. Breakfast was plentiful (selection of breads, cold cuts, cheeses, cereals, jams etc.) and if you need to be up earlier than their normal starting time they were accomodating to that request (especially if you want to head up to the top early).

The dinner was definitely the highlight and we're not even big "food" people. Because we are not "food" people, we enjoyed not having to search out a restaurant everynight too. We were given a table for the three nights with the same unbelievable view that our room had. The four course meals were really a treat. Everynight each of the four courses were new and delicious. One of the nights, the main course was fish and they remembered I had mentioned a previous night that I was not a seafood eater. They were ready with another option that was just as good and was no trouble to have the replacement. The chef would come out and quickly visit towards the end of the meal too.

Wengen itself was a dream location. We were happy to be away from crowds of tourists (no tour buses here!). It really is a quaint as it looks in pictures. It is nice to be located a good way up to the top if you're planning to venture up there. The people in town were very friendly. The first full day we had rain, so we opted to follow the advice of the hotel and hike down to the falls which we thouroghly enjoyed. The other full day was beautiful, so we took the tram up and hiked over to Kleine Scheidegg to then take the train to the top. Perfect afternoon!

Three nights was not enough time, so we definitely plan to come back and we would love to stay here again when we do return.

“Outstanding Hotel--Do not miss this one”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2011

My wife and I stayed for three days and choose this hotel because of reviews in Trip Advisor. My first comment is that this hotel exceeded our expectations. We had a room facing the mountains and lying in bed every morning watching the sun come on to the Jungfrau was unbelievable.
The food is presented in a manner fitting of a 5star restaurant and the quality and variety each night was a testament to their chef who has been there for over 8 years.
Locals and others also eat here which came as no surprise as the owner Renee personally ensures that the service is at all times attentive but not intrusive.
Whilst the hotel lacks some things (no in-room TV, no fitness area, WIFI in the common room only but coming soon to all rooms) the attention to detail in other aspects of this hotel is first class.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of the mountains

“Outstanding Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2011

Our first visit to Switzerland in July and we could not have picked a better hotel and village for our stay.
We booked a room with views over the Jungfrau and nearby mountains, and when the weather allowed, we had wonderful views. The room was spacious, bed comfortable and dinner at the restaurant was of the highest standard, with the chef highly regarded through the village of Wengen. Indeed, each evening's dinner was a highlight of the day.
Breakfast was first class and host Rene was always on hand to assist and ensure guest comfort.
We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this hotel (take the half board package, which provides breakfast and dinner) and the village of Wengen and would definitely stay here again.

“Superb Restaurant and Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2011

We have stayed at the hotel for several years - it is a favourite of ours. Recently we have spent more time dining at the restaurant which is an absolute 'diamond' in the Alps. The food is fresh, much coming from the mountains [mushrooms, etc.] and from the small garden looked after by the chef himself. The menu is always excellent with great flavours, beautifully presented and served. If staying in the Bernese Oberland, this is a must !!

Room Tip: Most rooms are mountain facing, so the views are spectacular
