Our second stay at the Falken. This is a lovely, old hotel with great character and tradition. Full of antiques and old photos, with creaky floors and a homely feel. Lots of visitors have been coming for years and appear to be almost 'family'. The hotel is personally run by the Cova family - who have a fine skiing pedigree so are useful for tips and guidance. We had one of the standard, north facing rooms. It was actually quite spacious, with room for a couch / sofa bed as well as our very comfy double bed. Very warm - which was just as well as it got to minus 20 at night! Duvets were actually too warm for me but my wife did not complain! Bathroom was fine - although our friends seemed to have drawn the short straw and had a pretty cramped one. If you want better rooms the south facing balcony ones seem to be the pick, although you will pay more. Breakfast is good - mixture of , juices, fruit, yoghurts, bread, meat & cheeses with do-it-yourself boiled egg. There was scrambled egg as well - although on occasions the logisitics to keep this refilled failed and some people missed it or were kept waiting. Dinners are a set 4 course meal - this seemed to have slipped a bit in standard from our last visit but nevertheless was absolutely fine. Staff cannot do enough to help, and many seem to have ben there for several years which is always a good sign. They are really helpful in times of difficulty - one of the guests suffered a broken leg and they were happy to shuttle him around. We had an early start home and had a great packed breakfast. We were able to ski in - ski out thanks to the snow, and the hotel has a convenient boot / ski room at the rear.
All together -a great holiday and great stay.
Room Tip: See above - the south facing / balcony rooms are best but most expensive. Size can vary so maybe ask...
