We found the hotel to be excellent and a comparative bargain. The Hotel is a relatively small, family run inn, but we think we enjoyed it much more than we would have one of the larger hotels. While not luxurious or large, the rooms were fine, beds comfortable, and those on the valley side had a spectacular view from the room and balcony (with chairs and table) of the Lauterbrunnen Valley and the surrounding mountains and glaciers. The location of the hotel was also a plus, only a short walk from the cog train station (down the hill from the station). The hill is steep enough that, on departure, you may want to have the hotel give you and your luggage a lift.
We opted for the half pension plan which included breakfast and dinner. Both meals were typical Swiss-German. Meats, breads, pastries, cheeses, juices, fruits, and cereals in the morning and outstanding four course dinners in the evening. Price wise, this was the only way to go as opposed to more expensive dining without half pension and in town restaurants. Service was superior, as is the case in all of Switzerland, and every meal was excellent and interesting.
If we had been able to spend only one week, not three, in Switzerland, our 7-day stay at Hotel Baeren in Wengen would have been it. Aside from the hotel, the central location of Wengen was perfect. The town us right on the cog train line to Jungfraujoch, Grimmelwald and the Eiger. It is also the terminus of a gondola lift to the mountain above at Mannlichen where you can catch another ski lift (one of the longest in Europe) almost all the way to Grimmelwald. Recommendaton: Transportation on trains and ski lifts iin Switzerland is great, but expensive. If you are going to use the gondolas/trains a good bit while in Wengen, and we used both heavily, you may want to look into the Jungfrau Pass for discounts. We also recommend the Swiss Rail pass for cost savings on rail travel and other transportation needs.
