Liked the position of the Regina - right next to the railway station, and we could ski from the boot-room door to the Männlichen lift which was also close by. Despite being so central, the location was pleasantly quiet. Our room was nice and spacious with a balcony and mountain view. The communal areas including the dining room are quite grand and stylish, though the corridors and lifts are in need of refurbishment. The food was excellent - ample breakfast and the 4-course dinner included in half-board was very much haute cuisine. The staff were friendly, though sometimes over-attentive at meal times, which could feel intrusive especially at dinner.
We did, however, have a few disappointments:–
- The hotel would not serve tap water at dinner, even as an accompaniment to wine. Instead they offered their own filtered water at CHF 10 for 50cl, which seemed excessive to say the least, especially when the cheapest bottle of red was CHF 29 for 50cl!
- The boot-room lacked effective heating and there were no boot warmers for storing boots on overnight.
- The gym consisted only of a couple of exercise bikes, a stomach exerciser and a multi-gym which was out of order.
- At the end of our stay the reception staff took over an hour and several attempts to produce a bill that we agreed with. Early versions included a large number of items we had not ordered or signed for. This apparent incompetence was very disappointing for a hotel in this price bracket. It left a poor impression and spoilt our last evening in the hotel.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and hope that some of the problems we encountered will be put right.
