“Enjoyable stay in excellent hotel, a few negatives notwithstanding.”

Liked the position of the Regina - right next to the railway station, and we could ski from the boot-room door to the Männlichen lift which was also close by. Despite being so central, the location was pleasantly quiet. Our room was nice and spacious with a balcony and mountain view. The communal areas including the dining room are quite grand and stylish, though the corridors and lifts are in need of refurbishment. The food was excellent - ample breakfast and the 4-course dinner included in half-board was very much haute cuisine. The staff were friendly, though sometimes over-attentive at meal times, which could feel intrusive especially at dinner.

We did, however, have a few disappointments:–
- The hotel would not serve tap water at dinner, even as an accompaniment to wine. Instead they offered their own filtered water at CHF 10 for 50cl, which seemed excessive to say the least, especially when the cheapest bottle of red was CHF 29 for 50cl!
- The boot-room lacked effective heating and there were no boot warmers for storing boots on overnight.
- The gym consisted only of a couple of exercise bikes, a stomach exerciser and a multi-gym which was out of order.
- At the end of our stay the reception staff took over an hour and several attempts to produce a bill that we agreed with. Early versions included a large number of items we had not ordered or signed for. This apparent incompetence was very disappointing for a hotel in this price bracket. It left a poor impression and spoilt our last evening in the hotel.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and hope that some of the problems we encountered will be put right.

“Wonderful, don't believe the idiots!!”

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Regina in Wengen between September 8th – 15th. Prior to this holiday, we read many of the comments left here and felt that we had to find the time to add our own. Wengen is a quiet sleepy beautiful and clean little village in the mountains with no car access, only mountain trains which are clean, comfortable and always on time. Yes, as per some comments, this hotel is, in places, in need of slight refurbishment (e.g. stairs carpets) which is an ongoing task, the rooms are a little on the small side as are the shower rooms and the hotel in general is not very well lit, but as mentioned previously this does add to the ambience of the yester-year class of this hotel. Sitting in the classic breakfast room looking at the amazing chandeliers, silver cutlery, teapots, milk jugs and other refinements that have clearly been in constant use for over 50 years, one can imagine the grandeur of an age gone by.
The staff is of the friendliest we have come across and the owner, Herr Myer, with his informative conversation over dinner makes the stay perfect. This gentleman, and I use the term purposefully, is the third generation of a family that have owned this hotel and the old black & white photographs on the dining room walls of his grandparents complete the atmosphere. The dining room tables all look out into the most beautiful valley and snow-topped mountain views. But the ‘piece de resistance’ is the 5 star cuisine. The 4 course menu here is incredible. We have never eaten food this good in our lives, especially not on a holiday and we are well travelled. The chef has been at the hotel for 6 years and people we met return annually as much for the cuisine as everything else. We read comments here that the food was basic and amongst other things ‘barely sufficient’, the people that wrote this must be retarded or live in McDonalds. Peasants!!
We didn’t know what to expect on the trip but after 7 days, we didn’t want to leave and yes, we will be returning as soon as we can to the same resort and hotel, as so many others do. If you don’t enjoy your stay here then you are wasting your money on this culture and you may as well go to Butlin’s instead!

“A lovely place to stay”

Our third stay at Regina. Our rooms faced the mountains...what a view to wake up to!!!
Food was very good although my wife has an intolerance to wheat. Even the smallest crumb from an ordinary loaf can upset her. We suspect that her wheat free bread was sliced on the same board as other ordinary breads as she felt unwell on at least 3 occasions. We were assured that none of the dishes they served her would contain any wheat but I got the impression that not all of the Restaurant staff fully understood her problem.
The wash basin in Room 315 does not retain the water and one has to keep "topping-up" I did report this to Reception but no improvement occurred. Also the toilet basin was cracked and occasionally led to a strong smell of urine which only disappeared after the room had been given the morning "once-over". I did not complain about this to anyone.
Mr Meyer and hisstaff were very helpful at all times.

“Very good food, friendly staff, lovely dining room with fabulous views of the Jung Frau and SilverHorn”

The daily evening meal was always very very good - all four courses - even though we were half board and thought we had no choice of dish - in fact we could have a choice if we so wished. You are located about 2 minutes walk from the station - but not near enough to be noisy. All bedrooms seemed to have a balcony and wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. Really good breakfast too with a great choice available. Overall had a really lovely holiday at this hotel.

“Excellent location, accommodation, food and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2010

Excellent location for quick access to higher walks & hikes via mountain railway right outside hotel. Comfortable 'faded elegance' throughout befitting age of hotel. Some rooms have been refurbished but ours, although roomy, a bit drab. Bathroom updated and spotless! Fabulous attentive, but never intrusive, service from all waiting staff and front desk. All staff very friendly and helpful. Good choice of fine food, beautifully prepared & served. Our food included in cost of package. Wine expensive but to be expected given star rating and country. Wengen is a car free village. Bliss!
