How could you not love being in Interlaken: the views are sublime. Unfortunately, our one night stay at the Hotel du Nord was in the period when we were told they were getting ready to close for two months. Whilst the room and ensuite were very clean and the staff friendly, the room we had was not the standard you would expect from a four star hotel: the bathroom supplies were not stocked, the only power point that you could actually access to plug in our kettle was directly beneath the light switch - you needed a chair to put the kettle on before plugging it in - and our phone wasn't working at all. Our room faced over the street and as such was noisy. We had this room booked as part of a rail tour package, so on reading other glowing reviews I wonder if guests travelling on this package are placed in "lesser value" rooms?

location of this boutique hotel very good.. few minutes walk to many shops , restaurants, attractions... rooms pretty nice, with a huge lcd tv , very few english channels, good lighting, beds not comfortable , no airconditioning, anyway , with a cold weather outside. an electric fan provided for each room would be adequate, ... what i most like in our room was the view, when we could see the beautiful scenery and the snow capped mountains... with regards to the service, well , we ended up carrying our luggages, and we noted that the elevator could only accomodate 5 pax, internet service not free , they provide a password for a fee.. breakfast here is quite unique.. here, you boil your own egg to your liking, no staff to make omelets or any other stuff, and choices purely continental in its buffet selection....anyway the beauty and ambience outside more than make up for anything...

Clean, spacious, wonderful location and a fair breakfast. Great for families. The staff was very efficient and helpful. Within a walk to most places in Interlaken. The rooms are spacious and clean. The bathroom was wonderful with all the amenities. Flat screen TV. A fan was also available in the room. Ample free parking. In room tea and coffee. We would return to this hotel next time in Interlaken.

We chose the Hotel du Nord in Interlaken because it was within walking distance to the train station, was situated close to all attractions, and the price was right. Although not the fanciest hotel in town, it was very comfortable. The free breakfast was good. Hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Interlaken is a very scenic place, as you would expect in Switzerland. There are great mountain views when the skies are clear.

I really recommend taking the train to the Jungfraujoch region. From Interlaken, either Grindelwald or Wengen, you travel by cogwheel railway to Kleine Scheidegg at 6762 feet, then catch the Jungfrau railway through the Eiger tunnel, made famous by Clint Eastwood in the movie “Eiger Sanction”, to the top of the Jungfrau at over 11,000 feet. You can walk on a glacier, dine at several restaurants, or shop for souvenirs.

Also from Interlaken I recommend taking a ferry on Lake Thun (on the west side of town). It is a beautiful trip around the lake. You can hop off and back on at various scenic ports.

For the adventurous, try tandem paragliding. There are several outfits within a block or so from the hotel du Nord. Paragliders land right in the town square after launching from a mountaintop on the north side of town.
