“What a view”

We stayed here in October for three nights. We splurged on a south facing room and it was worth every cent. The weather was fantastic and there are not enough superlatives to describe the view of the Eiger and the Grindelwald valley from the balcony. We sat for hours with a glass of wine as the sun went down listening to the cow bells tinkle and the colors changing on the mountains and fields.

The hotel is less than 100 meters from the train station and is clean and efficient. The breakfast was one of the best continental breakfasts of our trip and included Bircher muesli (yum), fresh fruit and hot hard boiled eggs plus the normal breads, jams and cold-cuts.

We did the walk from Männlichen to Kleine Sheidegg. What a fantastic scenic mountain walk - not at all strenuous. We also did the trip up the Schilthorn which took most of the day but we spent a lot of time in Lauterbrunnen. Highly recommend both of these.

“The best value you can get.”

This is a straightforward hotel with all essential requirements for a comfortable stay in a very convenient location. The room was large and clean. The breakfast provided a wide range of options from a buffet style service. The owners were friendly and helpful. What more can you ask: a marvellous view of the North Face of the Eiger from the communal balcony outside the dining room. We'll be back.

“Great value and location!”

We were happy with this hotel. Close to the train station, good breakfast as described in the previous posts, excellent in terms of cleanliness, great value, a really cool system of room keys. We had one of the south facing rooms and if you love a good view, these are the rooms to book. We sat out on our balcony most evenings and soaked in the peacefulness. There is a sign posted outside saying that this is a Swiss budget hotel and the decor and amenities reflect that. For example, we got shampoo, but it was in those tiny tear-open packets, one per person each day. None of the towels matched and they are a bit thin, but they do the job nonetheless. On the other hand, the beds are extremely comfortable, there is good storage, there are many many brochures available in the lobby, candies available at the desk, and amazingly, many beautiful orchids growing in the front window. We had a safe in our room inside a locking cabinet, but not all the rooms have that. There is free Wi-Fi, but only for one device per room. If you have more than one, as we did, it costs an extra 39 Euros per device per day. If you want a cushy hotel with beautiful furnishings, go elsewhere, but if you want excellent value, comfort, cleanliness, and location without an uphill walk with luggage once you arrive, this is the place. Our main complaint was that no matter how we tried to talk to the owner, he gave us one word answers and walked away (and we really tried!) He did, however, get to know what we liked to drink at breakfast and after the first day, we never had to ask again. We like beautiful hotels, but with costs in Switzerland what they are now, we would go back to this hotel and would be happy to be back again.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view - you won't regret it!

“Good well located hotel with excellent breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 July 2011

Highlight is the breakfast and location.

everything is great with this hotel except for it has single beds only. For me and my wife they joined the two beds.

Hotel has small bar where you can have a drink or two in the evening.

“Great little hotel with fantastic mountain views”

We stayed for 6 nights in this lovely hotel which is very convenient for Grindelwald station. Staff were friendly, helpful and unobtrusive.

We chose a south-facing room with a balcony for CHF160 per night which gave wonderful views of the Eiger and the beautiful Grindelwald valley.

The standard of cleanliness was excellent with a linen change during our stay and a nice touch being a chocolate left on our bed every day. Breakfast was excellent offering yoghurts, swiss-porridge or conventional processed cerials with a great range of breads, spreads, eggs, cheese or meat slices to follow. All this really set us up for the day.

There is no facility for evening meals so you'll either have to make plan to eat out or buy in some stock from the local COOP store. Beware that restaurant prices are *very* high - around CHF18-30 for a single course.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a south-facing room if you can!
