“Disappointing in every way”

We stayed a weekend in this hotel as a group and we were very dissatisfied. The price-performance ratio was poor: CHF 250 per night for a worn-out double room w/o balcony.
The staff wasn't attentive, the hotel manager sneaked about all the time smoking cigarettes (even in the kitchen of the hotel own restaurant!). Dinner at this restaurant ("Gade") was a hassle: The waiter was totally overstrained, we waited more than an hour to get our meal. The bread for the Swiss speciality "Fondue" seemed to be three days old. Definitely no place to go. Breakfast buffet was ok.

Rooms a good size
A view fit for a postcard
Restaurant staff excellent.

that's where it ended.

Night One.
Booked and paid 6 months prior. Did not have our booking on arrival. Managed to work it out ( and get a room) as we had kept our reservation confirmation.

That night. No heating. Reception advised, a fault with entire floor. Will do there best. A nice night spent with minus celcius temperatures in our room.

Night Two
No hairdryer in bathroom. Ring reception, 'we don't keep them in our rooms as they get stolen'. Needed to go to reception, leave a 10 Swiss Franc deposit.

Night Three
8pm - no hot water. Go to reception, and advised 'sorry'. Called for Manager. General Manager Tommy comes to desk and advises that due to all the families that had been skying that day and having showers at 5pm (3 hours previous) that the water had run out and we should wait 45 minutes for the boilers to heat up.

End up slamming door on Gen Man as he shrugs his shoulders when I ask him the question ' I am paying $300 Francs a night for this room and you are asking me to wait 45 minutes for a shower'.

Get a phone call 5 minutes later to advise we could go down 2 lflights of stairs to the sauna to have a shower in the communal shower.

Get back to our hotel room that night and a fruit platter is on our table with a card from Tommy with 'sorry' written on it.

Make your own decision about this hotel. The rooms are good, the views excellent, the restaurant staff are great. If you dont care about the other stuff, go for it. Won't see me back there.

“Quiet, Friendly...Alpine Excellence!”

We had a fantastic experience at Eigerblick over Easter 2006. Upon check-in, the staff was very helpful in giving us information about the Jungfraujoch and skiing options. The room itself was large, with a TV, hair dryer, large wardrobe...and EXCELLENT view of the chalet-dotted mountainside. Breakfast was included in our room rate, and included the typical pastries, cheeses, meats, cereals, as well as some hot sides (bacon, sausage, grilled tomatoes -yum!).

We highly recommend the Eigerblick, but note that it is about a 10-minute walk uphill from Grindelwald's main street area, and the buses don't run that frequently. Also the directions we obtained from their website were a bit vague. Luckily the Eigerblick has a shuttle van that they will send to pick you up --best bet to take their phone number with you and call when you arrive in town. If you haven't a mobile phone, there is a phone by the sports center which connects to various town hotels (including Eigerblick), and you can call from there to arrange the pickup.

We stayed at this hotel in Feb 06. it is awesome! the view of Grindelwald was breathtaking. it's a short walk to the train station which you can go on to the slopes and city centre where we went to the local gym complex and played curling! the complex also has an ice skating rink inside. the hotel room was very clean and newly renovated. we had an all inclusive meaning breakfast and supper. the food was excellent! they also have a parking garage for a small fee if you drive there. I would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to go back myself one day!

“The Eigerblick .... lovely hotel”

Thought I would write a quick review of the Eigerblick seeing as it is a while since the last one was done!
We had a lovely holiday there in January 06, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, our room was spacious and nicely furnished, the bathroom was great - we even had a window in it - the food was really good and the dining area had wonderful views to the mountains.
The walk into town was easy, however it was a different story walking back after a days skiing with skis and ski boots on, especially after a pint or two in the bars in the town! (Nice bowls of nuts in the Derby)
We really enjoyed our stay in Grindelwald and had a wonderful skiing holiday. The lift pass included all rail and bus travel which made getting around easy.
A lovely area, we are thinking of staying in Wengen next time.
