My wife and I just spent two nights at the Alpenhof and had a great stay. We had a Double Superior room with a great view of the north face of the Eiger. The room was a good size with a separate living area beside the twin beds, plus a small but comfortable balcony with table and two chairs. The bathroom was small but adequate for a short stay. The reception was friendly and helped us deal with our first vacation with a dog in tow. The restaurant served a "robust" menu in the Alpine style. i.e., lots of meat, game, and good portions at a reasonable price for Swiss standards (e.g., CHF 60 for dinner for two without wine). The breakfast was also plentiful, with cereal, bread, cheese and meat. Eggs and/or bacon can be had but at an extra cost. The fantastic sunny fall weather went a long way to creating a very positive impression of both the hotel and the town of Grindelwald. I have no reason at all to complain, but if you put a gun to my head, I could say that the walls were perhaps a little thin, meaning we could hear a crying baby or a barking dog every once in a while, but that did not disturb us in any way. All in all, easy to recommend and we'd go back anytime.
