“No request denied. Great food, location & service”
We like to travel by rail. Arriving in Geneva airport from Newark, USA, one can be on the train within an hour for a scenic ride lasting about 2:45 with one change in Montreux. At the airport, we checked our luggage to Gstaad which the hotel staff delivered to our room later.
We arrived via the Goldenpass train at Gstaad station about noon and despite the offer to by picked up, we walked all of two minutes to the Christiania.
Mr. Geadah welcomed and invited us to have a drink & lunch before checking in. Over our entire stay, the room staff was invisible and reception seemed to anticipate our needs in advance.
We stayed here a couple years ago and was surprised to see our room was now larger as they took down a wall & combined rooms. The new bath with a glass divider was modern but the room had the charm of natural wood. This was a top double room, not a suite. The room rates on their website seem complicated but they break down by date (season) then type & location. For a Swiss hotel, with the crappy USA exchange, the rates seem reasonable to me.
This visit we tried the Egyptian/mid-east menu starting with a wonderful appetizer plate then a lamb entree and for my wife, trout off the 'regular menu'.
The next night, we had out favorite fondue - seafood of all types we cooked in broth then ate with like 15 types of homemade sauces. Breakfast in your room or downstairs was good and included anything we requested at no charge.
The hotel is not fast food or fast service. They don't have a pool or excercise facility. What they have is a "home away from home" with location central to Gstaad, the Swiss Alps and a better part of Switzerland.
