Palafitte is one of my favour hotels in Switzerland! It is only 1 and half hours drive from our home, but we stayed there twice. Once in winter the year after Swiss national Expo, and the second time in summer - was fantastic - each room with sunny terrace, and can jump directly to the lake for swimming - the only one of this kind in Switzerland.

In general we love the concept of it's design (private and discrete ), it was "avant garde" intern of space planning, and it's material and deco of interior. But when we returned in 2007, the whole place was aged - good for the garden, but the rooms seems needing a retouch. Whenever we pass through Neuchatel, we always love to have a meal at its restaurant, not necessary for the food but for it's haven like out-door terrace.

If you are planning a romantic getaway or just a relaxing break in a luxury environment with a special touch - this is it. The location and the interior of the pavilions are outstanding - we have booked one of the romantic packages, and it was worth every single cent. The food is divine - every dish is a piece of art and sitting on the terrace looking over the lake makes you feel like there is no better spot...On a hot summer day you can have a swim, either directly from your pavilion or from the jetty. We can truly recommend this hotel and will definitely return.

Just an amazing place to stay in, the location and the service is more than you wonder, try it in summertime you will be amazed

Have you seen the film “Bridge over the River Kwai?” if you have you will understand what it feels like to attempt to sleep in a small tin box that has been heated by the sun all day long. Our seemingly very nice and very well equipped room was built over the water on Lake Neuchatel and, apart from being so technologically advanced that it took me half an hour to understand the TV controls, was akin to said tin box. It turned out that the air conditioning was centrally controlled and could not be changed within the room. This was/is a huge problem unless your name is Alec Guinness. When I called the desk at midnight because it was at least 85 degrees and sleep for we poor pale-skinned UK residents was impossible, the man gave a gallic shrug {odd because this is Switzerland} and said we would have to wait until it cooled down naturally. It didn’t. We left the next day despite having intended to stay for two. On the good side the breakfast was excellent and we would have liked to have had dinner in the apparently rather good restaurant on the day we arrived but they couldn’t fit us in – a poor show given that we were hotel residents - but I probably shouldn’t complain because I ought to have booked before arrival. Hmmm. Reception staff were however very helpful in finding another good restaurant. All in all, another potentially good place ruined by poor engineering.
