Overall a good experience, but hard to shake-off the weird vibe of sleeping in an old jail. The room was comfortable, but basic. We were in the handicap accessible room and it came with a large private ensuite bathroom and a "sexy" jailhouse mural on the wall. We did not have any trouble with noise from the nighclub because it was out of busines in May 2011. The breakfast is very good with plenty of fresh juice and hot coffee. The location is excellent, close to the old town and the river.

We stayed here as part of our contiki tour. I must say we were very impressed with the whole outlook and feel of the hotel and if not for this terrible experience with one of their staff, i would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for something different.

Firstly, check in was ok. Free wifi in the tiny lobby area only. Once u leave that small area, signal is gone. But it's free wifi nevertheless so i shall not complain.

Rooms were cutely small. Had interesting doors that looked like original jail cell doors. The room was sparsely decorated, adding to the jail feel of the hotel. Cute. Tolet was like a small box installed into the room. Interesting. One small window at the top of the wall for ventilation and some natural light. Oh just take note that they dont have a lift but that seems to be normal in europe so thats ok.

Location of hotel was very good. Walkable to the main shopping areas. Basically we walked everywhere and it was a scenic walk too!

Then the incident happened. It was around 11pm. Suddenly the lights went out. Like totally out. And obviously the tiny window at the top of the room is not going to help with any illumination watsoever! So anyway, i slowly felt my way to the door, opened it and went out. At the same time, my contiki mates from the other rooms around me also came out as the blackout affected the whole section of the hotel. One of us went downstairs to the reception to ask for help. One guy came up and asked us to remove all our high powered devices. Then he went down and abt 3 mins later came up again asking us to remove our high powered devices again! Now, there is only 1 socket available for us to charge watever we need. And all of us had already took out watever we were charging so i told him we did. He just said that one of us must have still have smth charged and went back down. I assumed he went back to check or do smth abt it so we waited outside our rooms. After abt 10 mins of waiting, i decided to go down and check. To my horror, i saw that staff who was supposed to get back to us happily chatting and joking with his colleague at the front desk!! I asked him is he going to do anything abt the lights and he shouted back at me that he cant do anything about it as one of us must have still have our high powered device in the socket!!! I was so horrified at his service attitude i didnt bother being nice anymore. I demanded that he changed our room and the rooms of all the people affected as well. Fortunately for him he agreed and did that.

It's sad that such an interesting hotel is marred by such rude and incompetent service staff.

Stayed here one night as part of a group tour this past summer. The rooms are modified jail rooms (bunk beds, toilets, and bars for window). Our showers were across the hallway and we had to share it with other people as well. Since the window bars are always open we could hear the noise from outside during the night. This was quite an annoyance considering how many loud drunk tourists out late at night. The theme appeal quickly wore off once I realize how sucky this hotel is.

Stayed there on a tour with middle school children - they were fascinated by the atmosphere. There are exhibits of jail artifacts (plates, uniforms, restraining cuffs, etc.) to amuse them. The rooms are VERY small, and the bathroom lacks privacy, so only go there if you want a change of pace and feel adventurous. Good access to local sights and events. Breakfast was served in the room that serves as a disco at night. Interesting.
