“Good location and value for money in Lucerne... Free WiFi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2010

Lucerne is a very expensive place to stay and this was one of the cheapest options we could find within walking distance to Lucerne Central. The manager is very helpful and the restaurant was great although the menu is very limited. We had a four person room and had really good storage for our bags, coats etc. There was no smell of cigarettes at all as others have stated. We had a large balcony off our room which we used to keep drinks cold as it was bucketing down with snow! No problem with traffic noise, but we had the windows closed obviously. Fantastic that we could look out the window to see when the next bus was coming as the bus stop is right outside the hotel. We were very happy with how easy it was to get to the hotel from the A2 and the parking is included.

“Decent hotel and good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2010

We had a family room with a balcony, facing the main street. I was initially concern with the possible noise of traffic. However, was pleasant suprise that we hardly had any disturbance.
Location of hotel is great. It's a short walk to the banhof and the old town. Taking a bus was easy too as the No 1 bus (which takes us to/fro center of town) stops in front of the hotel.
The food at the restaurant was good. The chef was extremely helpful with taking of orders. All other staff were friendly and helpful.

“Slightly better than a hostel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2010

This hotel cost us CHF298 for 2 nights, about £97 per night which was the most we paid for accommodation on our whole trip and it was far from worth it.
A 10-15minute walk from the heart of Lucerne the hotel is on a busy road and if you have your windows open (which is probably likely as the rooms are very hot!!) don't expect sleep to come easliy as the noise of traffic is intense.
The staff speak little English which makes any communication difficult - the only person who was able to help us was the man in the chef whites who was very friendly and as helpful as he could be when he was there.
We had a double bedroom which was sparsely furnished (not really an issue), no air conditioning but they did supply a fan and a small TV. No tea/coffee facilities. The bathroom is very small. The mattress and pillows were of a poor standard and do not facilitate a good night sleep. The second night we asked if there was a spare mattress we could put on the bed and the chef man was happy to help and found a spare single mattress we could use which helped a little.
The first morning we woke up to NO electricity (later found out the whole floor had lost power) after trying to communicate this to the staff who thought giving us a bulb would help we were told the boss would deal with it later!! So health and safety aside we had showers in the tiny bathroom in the pitch black - very helpful! Luckily when we arrived back after a day of sightseeing the electricity was back on, however we did not once receive an apology for the inconvenience.
Breakfast is served downstairs and is a basic but acceptable bread basket, tea/coffee and juice, this was included in the price.
GOOD POINT - the hotel does offer a free internet point if you don't mind standing in the hallway by reception to use it.
This hotel is not suitable for people with problems walking/climbing stairs as there is no lift.
Overall this hotel offers little more than a private hostel room with its own bathroom and it is not one we will be rushing back to.

“Budget Hotel in the heart of Lucerne”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

This is a relatively old hotel that could use a few upgrades. However, the gentleman who runs the hotel (on lease from the owner) is pleasant enough and tries to help where possible. There are no elevators or air-conditioning. The rooms are clean and tidy, while the bathrooms are rather small. Due to the fact that the hotel is on the main road and it gets rather hot in the summer, you are forced to open the windows and sleep and it gets rather noisy.
Breakfast is rather basic bread, buns, processed cheese and jam with tea, coffee or hot chocolate. If you want eggs, it costs CHF1.50 and cereal is CHF4.00.
The restaurant is open at night only for residents and offers a very decent dish of the day (with salad) for CHF17.50. Compare this to what's available on the waterfront, and its definitely more reasonable.
The Bus No.1 (very frequent) or Bus20 (Allmend) take 10 minutes to reach Luzern Banhof.

“Nice little hotel at reasonable rates and friendly and helpful staff. Just like home.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2010

We booked into this hotel through the internet, based on reviews and got a pleasant surprise. It is located a few Kms. away from the train station. It is a beautiful, friendly hotel with very helpful staff. The bus stop is just outside the hotel and the Bus No. 1 leaves every few minutes. So it is very well connected.

The rooms are comfortable, neat and clean. We took a quad room. The hotel manager always welcomed us when we came back after an outing.

Breakfast was included with the room rent. A very positive atmosphere. Internet was free round the clock at the small lobby.

A very special thing we experienced was that our camera memory stick got full as we had been travelling to a number of countries. The manager took special pains to download our memory stick photos into a CD given from his side, since it was too late to get a new stick, so that we could delete the photos from the memory stick and keep it fresh for further photos of our trip to other countries.

We would have fond memories of our stay in the hotel and leads me to believe that these are the things that make a trip more enjoyable rather than only a big highly decorated room.

A jewel in Lucerne indeed.
