I went to Lucerne, Switzerland as part of a fourteen-day trip around Western Europe with my mother (I filed the under solo as it shares more characteristics). First off, I would like to praise the architecture and location of the hotel. It is situated in the heart of Lucerne, near the famous bridge, a train station with a supermarket, a fruit market and more. I didn't expect our hotel to be in this building due to its sheer grandness. The interior did not really match the brilliance of the outside, but the contrast was interesting.
Check-in was not really quick but the what was reasonable.
The room was quite large for us Singaporeans with a view of the streets in front of Lucerne. It was interesting considering there were only two of us. I couldn't recall the quality of the bed, but it was pretty decent.
Now comes the interesting aspect: the bathroom. There is a policy that should one wet the carpet (or even the bathroom floor if I recall), a fine of about a SGD100 will be charged, which was pretty silly. I believed the toilet was unable to work at one point, but I can't recall clearly. Aside from that, most amenities worked fine.
For dinner and breakfast, we ate at the in-house restaurant. It was well-furnished and the food was plentiful and delicious. There's a Starbucks down at the lobby with free wifi. Otherwise, one would have to pay a fee for the hotel wifi.
Overall, the hotel was average to good. As I said, I booked a package so I was unsure about the price. Apparently the price per night was SGD331 (deal is at 230) around December 2011 according to Booking.com. A bit overpriced, but a fairly good stay nonetheless.
Room Tip: There are some rooms facing the city with a nice view. Try that.
