Wonderful place and clean . Very comfortable rooms. Very good location

We stayed in the riverview suite in January 2012. It was fairly expensive -- about $400/night US -- but worth it. The location is simply perfect -- it's just across the newer metal river bridge in old town. It's easy to walk to/from the train station, and pretty much every where else you'd want to go in Luzern (Lucerne). The staff was friendly and the room had a stunning view of the river. The star ceilings over the bed and bath tub were very cool. The only complaint is that the room tends to get hot and since it was cold outside we have to continuously open/close windows to adjust the temperature. Bathroom area was big and very nice. Plenty of hot water and massive water pressure. Would absolutely stay again.

My wife and I stayed here on our first night in Switzerland. Our entire trip was wonderful and the Hotel des Balances was a great way to kick it off. We arrived early in the morning after arriving from the United States. Our room wasn't ready so they stored our luggage and provided us with some great drinks in the bar while we relaxed after our long trip. After exploring the old town area for a while, we returned to check in. The room was a great corner room that looked out over the river and towards the lake. With a fresh snow on the ground, the scene was like something out of a story book. The hotel is in a great location for exploring the old town area and is a great value compared to the large hotels along the lake. We stayed here the week before Christmas and it was the experience of a lifetime to be able to see all the great decorations and friendly folks shopping in the local market. Lucerne and Hotel des Balances should definitely be on any travelers "to do" list.

Beautiful quality hotel in the centre. Friendly attentive staff who gave great advice on local attractions. Rooms with balconies overlooking the river & the charming old town. Valet parking.
