I have been staying there for over 7 months so I've had lots of feedback.

1. In January they had ridiculously expensive WiFi but it's now free so that was certainly welcome

2. The cleaners are not that thorough and have made several mistakes during my stay including taking my second room key several times; removing my personal belongings from my room and placing in my neighbour's room; removing bed clothes and not replacing; removing tablecloths, cutlery and not replacing.

3. I used to be given new sponges and washing up liquid but after 3 months this stopped. When I enquired why this was the case I was told that they only provide this for 1 week. This makes no sense at all as the cost is minimal for these 2 items and instead, the cleaner washes up my dirty dishes which seems a more expensive option. They still, however, generally give me new toiletries.

4. The air-conditioning is not great but I think this is a generic Swiss problem based on building regulations.

5. Smoking is allowed in any room so my room can often smell of smoke which is unpleasant to say the least.

6. The insulation is quite poor and I can often hear my neighbours' conversations and TV

7. My fridge has a leak. I reported it 3 times but it does not work correctly.

8. The staff are always polite and friendly

9. The breakfast provided for free on Mondays is simply croissants and drinks. They do provide fruit but it goes stale within 1 day. That does not stop them displaying it in the foyer.

Any request we have made have been met with a smile and with friendly efficiency. Pleasant accommodation and helpful staff. Home away from home !

My stay at the Residence was organised for me and the comments on tripadvisor caused me to have doubts on the quality of the stay. I have been accommodated in other hotels in Geneva which are of high quality, great service and high price.
But after a short downhill walk from the Geneva station Cornavin, I found the plain edifice of the Residence overlooking a quiet park. The reception was welcoming and gave me the vital information I needed in English. This included the opening hours which are limited on the weekend.
A security system limits access to the upper floors and the entrance after hours. The same card key provides access to the room.
The standard studio room is large and well furnished with a desk, dining table and full-size bed. There is a well-fitted bathroom and a useful fully-equipped kitchenette with a multipurpose oven. There is little to see from the back room windows but it is mercifully quiet.
The wireless internet is easy to connect and has a download speed of 325kbps and upload of 256kbps, great for Skype.
There is a complimentary continental breakfast on Monday morning from about 0730 and numerous patisseries and other eating places close by. A huge supermarket is near the station and there are several small marts two minutes walk with a range of goods. Self-catering is easy and cost-effective in this centre of many of the world's major organisations.
The No. 8 bus stops on the other side of the small park. This bus takes the visitor to the UN, WHO(OMS) and the ICRC (Red Cross) Museum in just a few minutes and of course you receive a complimentary travel ticket from the hotel for the length of your stay.
The hotel is on the edge of the red light district but that is easily avoided by walking the Rue des Alpes and south west.
I enjoyed my stay and will happily stay here again. The upper floor rooms appear to be a better choice than lower which are near the fitness club on the first floor.

This hotel is a no-frills experience. The room was adequate, the bathroom nice. There is a vending machine in the lobby with limited offerings such as cigarettes and gum. The staff was very nice.

It is only two blocks from the lake which is very convenient. Also close by is the tourism center and several cafes and restaurants. The bus stops one block away so public transport is easy to find.

The red light district is also one block away.

If you are looking for a roof and a bed, this is your place. If you are looking for 5 star comfort, you might be disappointed.
