Exterior wise the Intercontiental Geneva looks like it is a late 60s era hotel but it has been entirely renovated at considerable expense and is deluxe in every way. The rooms now are very attractive and it is one of the few Geneva hotels with a great large outdoor pool and as well an excellent gym. Location-wise it is a bit of a walk to the Vielle ville (Old town)..about 30 minutes but the excellent public transport system means there is a bus right outside the hotel that takes 10 minutes at most to centre of town and the lake. It is a short walk to the UN Palais des Nations), the Red Cross Museum and a splendid huge old manor called that now houses a top rate collection of porcelain and china as well as silver (and a secret it has an excellent lunch cafe which has a small terrace overlooking the UN and the lake) as well as to the WHO and the ILO headquarter buildings. Behind the hotel is a small plaza where there is a good and reasonable chinese restaurant and a short walk west there are several more restaurants including a fast food chicken place, two good Italian restaurants and my favourite bistro, the Cafe du Soleil (which has a wonderful terrace courtyard for good weather and is still so much the style of the 1930s Geneva bistro..I try to travel there every spring just to have their lunch plate rivoli stuffed with fresh asparagus in a cream sauce..to die for...and the best fondue in Geneva). I should hasten to add that the Inter has an excellent restaurant totally redone and a wonderful terrace as well..all very modern.
