I had to cancel my original hotel and booked a room at the Cristal instead because of the change in my arrival date in Geneva, the second stop of my Swiss vacation in early July.
The Cristal is near the main train station but on a small street behind the very busy Cornavin square. After getting off the train, I got my bearings and used the underground passageway to get to my hotel. As soon as I emerged on the other side within a few minutes, I looked up and to my pleasant surprise, there was the Cristal. Check in was friendly and quick; the free Geneva transport card a very welcome bonus. It was good for buses, trams, and even the ferry. The room is very modern, minimalist but quite functional. I thought the bed was comfortable and most of all, the room and bathroom were almost spotless. I did like the lighting. As mentioned by other reviewers, the breakfast room was sunny, inviting, and offered rooftop views and the French mountains in the distance. I specially enjoyed the automatic coffee machine that dispensed my favorite hot breakfast beverages.
The neighborhood is quite ideal for a first-time visitor; it was full of small shops and food options both for table service and take-out. A short distance away is the Mont Blanc bridge that took you to the main shopping streets, more upscale restaurants, as well as the old town. As you cross the bridge, enjoy the view of the Lake Leman (Lake Geneva) and the most famous landmark of this vibrant city, the Jet d'Eau. If you are too tired to make the walk back, don't worry, there are a few tram lines that'll get you back to the hotel area--remember you have that complimentary Geneva card, courtesy of the Hotel Cristal Design. I would definitely stay here again.
