Very convenient to the trains, Lake, and old Geneva. Wifi is ok, but not great. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful.

The Hotel Lido is close to the main railway station and is cheap for Geneva (but cheap in Geneva means expensive anywhere else!) The room was well sized, there were plenty of towels, and the beds were OK. The double glazing does a good job of blocking out the very loud traffic noise. Ummm, that's about it for the "positives".

I wouldn't recommend this hotel unless budget and location are your ONLY considerations. It was noisy, stiflingly hot, has dark and dingy staircases. It has a very small and claustrophobic lift (elevator). The breakfast was simply terrible and most of it was stale. Our room had stained carpets and badly marked cheap furniture. We could close the double glazed windows to reduce traffic noise but you lose all ventilation and our room became "unsleepably" hot with the windows closed and "unsleepably" noisy with them open!

Hotel Lido is located at the center of Geneva, very close to the Gare Cornavin and to many restaurants, pubs and souvenir shops. This is the only real good thing about the hotel. I stayed at room 56 during a weekend (February 26 and 27) and wasn't happy with it because:
1) wi-fi internet connection in room 56 (which is kind of the "last" room of the hotel) sucks! It keeps coming and going, very unstable. And it is not free, as the website states. Actually it is quite expensive, 20 francs for 3 hours, if I'm not mistaken, which you have to pay in advance;
2) when I detected this problem, I went to the lobby to complain. The woman that was attending said that the connection should work, asked if I was sure there was a problem and said that there was nothing that could be done;
3) the telephone in my room did not work; the woman at the reception said that since it was a saturday, there was nothing to be done either;
4) I left a closed pack of ementhal cheese outside the window, to keep it cold, when I left for a while on sunday. When I was back the cheese had disappeared;
5) the beds and pillows are incredibly soft, which made it difficult for me to sleep;
6) shower at the bathroom also sucks. Actually it is not a shower, but a bathtub (water flows from below your head).
For all those reasons, I absolutely don't recommend staying at Lido. Pick another one!

I liked the hotel. Given the price of alternatives, it seemed to be quite a bargain.

It is right near the train station, amongst several buildings that also host what qualifies as budget hotels in Geneva. Some might find the street below too busy and noisy, but I slept well. The room was relatively nicely appointed in contemporary business traveler style with a large screen TV and most notably had high ceilings.

If you park in the train station, make sure you pay your ticket at the machines inside the train station before you exit! There are no tellers or machines at the exit and you will have to leave your car and run in to pay the tab, as the exit has only one lane. Not a pleasant experience, I will tell you!
