I've stayed here before and it was fine but this time I decided to go for a junior suite for a couple of nights as it was the end of our hols. First downer was that the £/Swiss F exchange rate was about 30% worse than last time I booked which didn't help.

The suite was under the eaves whic mean that the ceiling was v low in palces and the lighitng was dim. A flight of steps up to the suite meant that I had to lug my heavy case up 10 steps or so on getting out of the lift.

Breakfast isn't included in the price and the front desk often isn't manned.

It's in a great location but it needs to pull it's socks up. As things stand I wouldnt' rush back

Expensive for what you get. Rooms and corridors are cramped, difficult to find anyone at the front desk when you need them, breakfast not included in the high room rate. Location on Bern's main street is good, but our room faced the street and we were awakened several times each night by noisy carousers in the street below.

Although the hotel is well located in the old part of Bern, there is no air conditioning so the room was very hot. Because the hotel is on a noisy main street, leaving the windows open wasn't an option. The room is quaint but there is only one fire exit and the fire door was propped open with a door stop. The hotel charged me an extra 100 Swiss Franks ($90) for a second person, and this for a hotel that doesn't include breakfast!!

The real kicker was when I checked out very early in the morning. The receptionist offered me a coffee and then turned around and charged me 10.50 ($9) for a "Swiss Breakfast".

On the plus side, the staff spoke excellent English and were, for the most part (see above) very welcoming.

Although Switzerland is expensive, being nickel and dimed by this hotel was irritating.

Not a four star hotel!!! Outdated furniture with doubtful stains on headboard of bed and decor coussins. Dirty curtains. Bad smell of old housing. Outdated shower in bathroom-no bathtube in a four star hotel!!. Many smokers. Suite is even a smokers room. Elevator was brocken after 24 hours and no one helped to carry our luggage from the fourth floor doiwnstairs. Reception nearly always unoccupied. Outstandingly overprized!!! But great location.
