A friend and I stayed four nights in Basel preliminary to a Christmas Markets on the Rhine cruise with Grand Circle. Rochat has a great location, convenient to transport, restaurants, and the old downtown core. There are a couple of flights of stairs between the tram and the hotel. The staff was uniformly and exceptionally professional and friendly. The room was spacious and very clean; the breakfast was extensive, and the wifi was free. We would definitely go back.

We booked two nights at the Rochat at the end of a Viking River cruise from Amsterdam concluding in Basel. We arrived at the hotel substantially earlier than planned and were met with a cheerful reception from the young guy working on reception. We stored our bags, went for a stroll and returned to find that he had changed our room to meet our early arrival and allow us to get ourselves comfortable much earlier than expected. Our room was very good, clean and tidy with a comfy bed. We were adjacent to the church and Basel Churches love to fire up the bells early in the morning so be warned. The breakfasts were good and the attached restaurant provides meals through to about 5.30 pm. They are well priced and for Kiwis traveling abroad relatively speaking everything is expensive but we found the food very reasonable and well priced. The annual festival is held about 10 meters from the front door and is good entertainment with the organ grinders and numerous stalls selling everything from cheese to wooden Christmas ornaments. The free travel pass and the helpful staff made this an excellent hotel experience. It is also alcohol free so you will find the beer in your bar fridge is alcohol free. The hotel began its life as the Blue Cross House back in the 1800's supporting those affected by alcohol, don't let that put you off there are plenty of places to have a drink in close proximity.

I booked this hotel and then while staying in Southern Switzerland prior to our due date in Basel my Mother became unwell. I cancelled the hotel 48 hours prior to our arrival and yet they still took the full £96.00GBP and then refused communications, now ignoring all my emails despite me explaining the circumstances. They were very very very unsympathetic and completely rude in their dealings with me. I lived in Switzerland for a year and have never encountered the Swiss to behave like this. Having read bad reviews now also I would advise stay clear!

Great hotel and friendly staff. Room was clean and staff was friendly, and the food great. We are planning another trip back and will be staying at the Hotel Rochat.
