Great hotel and friendly staff. Room was clean and staff was friendly, and the food great. We are planning another trip back and will be staying at the Hotel Rochat.

Although FINDING your room may take a minute, the rooms are big and clean, and the location is great. Breakfast in the morning is also varied and plentiful. thumbs up here.

We stayed for 1 night and found the staff and location excellent but also found the overall price a bit steep compared to accommodation in Italy and France - mind you this is the first time we've stayed in Basel / Switzerland so perhaps it's the going rate.

The location was ideal for us to walk around the city but as a bonus I was pleasantly surprised to be presented with complimentary travel passes for the bus and tram, which we used in the evening. Although the hotel doesn't serve dinner the staff recommended a great restaurant/cafe which was a 3 minute walk from the hotel.

It was great to have the complimentary refreshments in the restaurant area available at all times. The room was very spacious (there were 3 of us) and clean.

Although it was great to have the parking space at the back of the hotel it is a bit of a tight squeeze to get your car in and out - there are only 4 spaces available so suggest you reserve a space when you book the hotel (which is what we did).

We stayed on the 3rd floor in the old part of the hotel and although the room was extremely spacious the bathroom was small in comparison. The shower was over the bath and fortunately for us we are a relatively 'short' family - any taller and we wouldn't have been able to stand upright to have a shower! I'm guessing not all the bathrooms are like this but suggest one of the first things you do when you get to your room is stand in the bath - if you're taller than us you'll be requesting another room (perhaps they wait to see how tall you are before they allocate the rooms!).

A few other minor things about the rooms - the walls are thin so we could hear a bit of noise during our stay, our airco was stuck and so couldn't adjust it but it wasn't necessary anyway and the pillows were not very comfortable at all.

Overall a great stay in terms of service and location but next time I'd spend more time comparing prices across other hotels.

I stayed here during the Basel Tattoo 2011. Very friendly staff, quaint little hotel with long history. Nicely decorated, good value for money. Room was a bit small but had all comforts, i.e. clean en-suite, Sat-TV, WLAN, minibar. ALl rooms accessible by two different lifts. Very quiet and quaint area, small alleyways, VERY quiet at night (one can easily sleep with the windows wide open), quite central and city center easily reached on foot. Hotel provides free bus/tram ticket for duration of visit.
