“Comfortable, convenient hotel with excellent caring staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2010

Hotel easy to find (with sat-nav!) very near to the city centre. 15 minute walk - or free shuttle - to the beautiful Piazza IV Novembre (don't drive in - horrendous!). Manager was very helpful and friendly; room was spacious, comfortable and clean; food was good; convenient free parking next to the hotel. Also a very reasonable price for our 4-night stay.
Of our 6 weeks travelling in Italy, this was one of the best hotels, particularly because of the genuine caring friendly service.
From the hotel it is quite easy to drive to: Assisi, Gubbio and gorgeous Lake Trasimeno (recommend morning ferry to Isla Maggiore).

“Very welcoming friendly staff and spotlessly clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2010

We were looking for an inexpensive hotel for a 3 night stay and the Ilgo fitted the bill perfectly. We had our teenage daughter staying with us so we had a double room with a put-up bed. It was cosy but still more than enough room for us all. The air conditioning was very effective and really needed. The bed linen was really nice, fresh and clean and the towels got changed daily - the bathroom was small but spotless. Breakfast was good in a continental way (nothing hot and no fresh fruit or juice) but there was plenty of choice. There was a steep climb up to the town centre but the hotel provide a courtesy bus four times a day although the last one of the morning left at 9:30 so there was no time for a lie in.

“Best value, a very nice hotel with kind and friendly staff”

We found hotel Ilgo to be a very comfortable one: the staff was very nice and helpful, rooms were clean, each equipped with a safe (which is not standard in Italy). The free parking is useful to those who travel by car. The location might not be optimal, however the hotel offers an hourly free shuttle service to the center and back. The hotel also offers free internet/wifi (a bit sluggish, but probably a temporary issue) and a nice breakfast, all for a very lucrative price!

“Paper thin walls, Good sized rooms, Shuttle service misleading”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2010

Overall this hotel was average. I liked the rooms, they were quite large with flat screen TV with both BBC and CNN channels. Bathroom was TINY and very old but clean. Breakfast was excellent with fruit fruit, yoghurt, cakes, croissants, biscuits, cereal etc. Location was quite far from the historical centre but was closer to the centre than many other hotels. It was about a 1.5km to the centre up lots of steps and steep streets but everywhere in Perugia is like this, it is afterall a city at the top of a mountain. The hotel was close to many buses that go to the centre of town but one set of 100 steps is unavoidable as the hotel is down in a valley and you must climb down from the road to get there can be difficult if arriving on foot(there was a driveway for cars to drive down straight to the hotel entrance).

Be warned...the walls are paper thin on our 1st night our neighbours were talking and watching TV until 2am and we heard every word, even through ear plugs!

The hotel advertises a free shuttle bus to the centre of town. This is false. The shuttle bus is to the Universita Per Stranieri. The centre of town is a further 5-10min steep walk up very steep streets. Also, the shuttle doesn't run Sundays or Public Holidays.

Hotels in the historical centre of town are very expensive. But if you have mobility issues then you might be wise to pay the higher prices to stay there. If you are young and fit then this hotel is fine, there is a lot of walking and climbing but at least you are burning off those calories from the gelato/pasta/pizza you are sure to be eating!!

“Terrible bathrooms, poor location and really expensive for what it is.”

From a positive viewpoint the staff were quite friendly and the breakfast adequate.
However as has been pointed out by others the bathroom is tiny and the shower almost unusable. The bed was short and uncomfortable.
It is a very steep climb away from the hotel which is not conveniently located for the main town.
The quoted cost was almost doubled by the hotel when we arrived, although why I didn't get a confirmed booking thro' Trip Advisor I will never know.
