we stayed at carpediem 2 summers in a row. first year we came we didn't have a car and when we got there we found out it's quite remote from Assisi (15 min. drive - and the road is a bit serpentine). there's a shuttle twice a day - unfortunately the last one back from Assisi is as early as 20:00 which is a shame cause it's great fun in Assisi in the evenings: great restaurants, everyone's out on passagiatta and many times there are free concerts in the main square.
you can use taxis to Assisi and then get around Umbria by train or bus from there.
the staff was very helpful and we had no trouble renting a car through them but for the first two days we managed without it. it is highly recomended to use this resort if you want to tour Umbria - an absolutely beautiful region! every night we went to a different little village for delightful local festivities.
the apartement we stayed in was clean and comfortable but very poorly decorated which we didn't mind. rooms are large, kitchen is very well equiped, and terrace is lovely with a realy amazing view!
the resort is nice and quiet. there's no point going there if you're looking to stay in - the pool costs extra and the gym/play room is an absolute joke.
there are two lovely restaurants within walking distance and one of them has a little grocery store. at reception you can buy pasta, tomato sauce, milk, coffe, sugar, tea, mineral water, salt, olive oil and cookies at very reasonable prices.
the girls at reception are very helpful - watch out for the smelly guy that showed us to our room :)
