“We loved the charm of this 13th Century Converted Convent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2011

I have just read other reviews, and I believe that the complaints about the staff have helped the management retool. We arrived to a charming young man, who ran with my husband around the corner to show him the private parking space which we paid an extra 6 or 7 euros, and worth every penny. Then this same young man told us we were fortunate to get the splendid "room with a view", and a view it had, of the Tuscan countryside, just outside of the old wall of Siena.

Yes, the walls are thin. We kept our voices down out of consideration, and were not bothered by others. We were there the week before the Palio and there was much hoopla in the streets. But with the AC running, the windows closed, and the fact that we were always exhausted from our daily escapades, we had no trouble getting to sleep.

The breakfast must have changed as well. There was always a big bowl of fresh fruit, ham, salami and cheese, wonderful warm regular, almond and chocolate croissants, and a young wait staff person to make individual cappucinos, as many as we wanted.

We had a great time. We were told how to go everywhere in town, given terrific restaurant suggestions, and were treated extremely well.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view!!

“Sadly missing its potential by a mile, would not recommend a stay here”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2011

Arrived to a friendly welcome although it does not have a lift the room on the first floor was easily reached. The airconditioning could not be regulated, fridge and hairdryer were broken, male staff member promised to adjust the aircon and replace the fridge neither was done the hairdryer was replaced but the first replacement was also broken. Breakfast was poor. However beautiful courtyard facilites.
Stayed in 4 hotels over a 7 night stay in Tuscany this was our only disappointment.

“Rude, unwelcoming, poor communication skills....”

We checked in to the receptionist telling us we were not allowed to park or drive in the city...she was but we were "tourist" and not allowed. After several attempts to find the small gravel area she called a parking lot, we were ready to check in. We were given a key and told the room was "up two flights of stairs and that way". The room was horrible, i honestly wanted to cry! It smelled like old socks, the walls were filthy, the window was covered so you could only see out by standing in a chair, and the bed sank in the middle like the titanic. We went back and asked for a different room. The person at the front desk told us we were wrong, there was nothing wrong with the bed...it was new one year ago... After much pleading, she accompanyed us to the room, where she continued to deny the problem, until a maid came in and said she had noticed the problems as well. Then she offered us a much smaller room on the next floor, after seeing that it was clean, smelled much better, and the window actually openned, we accepted it. She shrugged her shoulders and said " I would not stay here, it is much to small". We couldn't wait to leave. The sad part is this really could be one of the great old places to stay. It has wonderful little niches to set and relax including a center court yard. The quantness is overshaddowed by the rude, extremely unhelpful front desk staff. I do have a suggestion....don't say you speak english when you clearly do not understand english!

“Comfortable (but possibly homophobic)”

It was further than I thought from the bus station - although only a 15 min walk, with suitcases I would advise a taxi (approx E10-15). Apparently there is a bus,(1 Euro) but I didn't find it. Sensitive renovation of a 14th C Carmelite monastery. About 10 mins walk from the Duomo and Il Campo. No lift and no porters, so you have to take your own luggage up the stairs and to your room. Our room was fine with a good view out over the Tuscan hills. The only negative being we had booked a double and got a double, but on returning to our room after our evening meal this had been transformed into a twin! The fact that our partner and I are male may have had something to do with it. Did we offend Catholic sensibilities??? The diocese still appears to have an office in the building. Had no problem like this elsewhere in Italy. Staff were personable and helpful despite above issue.

“Il Chiostro del Carmine is a great find!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2010

This is B&B recommended by our local guide. He actually booked the room for us which could explain the reason the double room was only Euro 70 p.n. rather then the Euro 135 seen on some of the travel networks. The room was on the 2nd floor so there were two flights of stairs but for the price I didnt mind. Rooms were nice and clean and parking (around corner from B&B) was included, as well as breakfast and internet in lobby. Restaurant recommendations were spot on.
