My wife and I stayed in 4 locations in Tuscany one week each, late September 2011. This was our Siena choice and we were really happy with everything about Casale Virgili. The room and building were really comfortable and well designed. The view is like a calendar picture. Roberto was an ever-helpful and knowledgeable host, and the family who run the facility do a great job. Breakfasts either in the outdoor area of the indoor dining room were very well prepared and enjoyable. There is convenient on-site parking if you have a car. My wife swam every day in the perfect pool looking over the valley - ( probably too cool for most people that time of year ).
We chose not to rent a car in Italy, and found it was no problem to walk about .5 km to the nearest city bus stop - you get to meet local people that way, the bus fare is cheap and the bus goes to a good location in Siena. We are in our early 60's. ( When walking anywhere in Siena, there are hills. )
Roberto advised us on a good country ramble one day, on a fine restaurant in town near the Fonte, and there are good restaurants in the Aqua Calda part of town near Casala Virgili, if you don't want to go to the Campo every night. We enjoyed walking to thru various neighbourhoods and enjoyed just seeing how people live.
After we had left for Florence, Roberto saved the day for us by rushing to the train station to bring us our passports which we had inadvertently left in the office - I was literally lined up to buy my tickets - talk about great customer service !
( We also stayed in Levanto, Lucca and Firenze - all of which were great places for visitors to Italy )
