My partner and I stayed here in June 2011 on a wider tour of Italy. The Agriturismo is indeed very agricultural and is a working horse stud breeding horses for the palio. We stayed here for 4 nights in June 2011. The place is hard to find and it wont appear on your satnav so follow the instructions carefully. The Agriturismo has an electronic entry gate and then a 400m dirt track up to the properties. You definately need a car to stay here as its fairly remote but its a great base for driving out to explore other Tuscan hill towns or driving up to Siena (10 min drive).
We stayed in a room above the office which had a kichenette. There is a supermarket about 10 mins drive away where you can buy food. The room was nice but it sort of lacked privacy as being above the office you could hear conversations and occasionally smell tobacco from below as the floors are separated by a hatch built around a closed staircase.
The owner was helpful and gave us lots of hints on towns to visit in the area. From her recommendations and those we visited I would suggest absolutely to visit Montepulciano (stunning setting) and Pienza. They offer dinners at the property but we did not try them. We had a lovely balcony and could sit out and night and sip wine and enjoy the peace and the fireflies.
On the subject of flies do not stay here if you cant stand them. Being a horse farm there are little houseflies everywhere. We kept the doors and windows shut all day to avoid filling our apartment with them. The pool was a pleasant area but again there were a lot of flies floating face down in it so not too appetising for a dip. Its a horse farm so you have to appreciate that this is an issue. It didnt make our stay inpleasant. There is an overgrown nature trail which was nice and the owners old dog literally wanted to give us a guided tour of it which was quite funny.
All in all this is a lovely place to stay for a few nights and a good base to explore Tuscany or Siena.
