We made a reservation for the Piccolo Hotel Oliveta back in February. We knew it was a holiday weekend in Italy, so we wanted to plan ahead. This was a special celebration for us. The owners went out of their way making our arrangements, planning a wine tour, dinner reservations, etc. Imagine our shock and disappointment to arrive in Siena and finding the hotel closed! We talked with nearby shop owners who told us of the 'marital difficulties' between the owners. Since it was Liberation Day weekend, there were no hotel rooms available in Siena. We ended up out in the suburbs, with no transportation, having to pay for taxis to take us to/from Siena. I had been in touch with the owners just two weeks prior to our arrival and of course, nothing was mentioned about potentially being closed.
