“Quiet, pleasant, and air conditioned!”

A colleague and I shared a room at the Arcobaleno during an academic conference. For that purpose, the location was great, as it was a 15 minute walk to the conference site at the Universita per Stranieri di Siena. But as other reviewers have noticed, it's a bit more of a hike to the city center -- about 30 minutes. In hot July weather, I could get very sweaty making that walk, but I just gave in. (There might be a bus line -- cheaper than a cab, if you don't have a car and don't want to walk. The friendly staff would tell you if you asked, I'm sure!) Anyway, we found the room clean and comfortable, with a great shower and effective air conditioning. And I *loved* the solid foam mattresses on the beds because I'm a side-sleeper, and the 'give' they had on my pressure points was perfect. Good pillows, too.

As others have noted, the breakfast room is pretty and comfortable and there are a number of cold food options. The restaurant down below the hotel was also good, but also good, especially for the price (and more casual), was the Jolly Pizzeria and Trattoria around the corner, to which the friendly and helpful staff directed us.

As for the staff, they get highest marks for friendliness, helpfulness, and impressive multi-lingual skills! They even gave us a better option for getting to Florence by bus than the university had -- turns out the SITA "corsa rapide" bus directly to the bus station in Florence can be hailed from a stop at the Piazza Diavola just down the street from the hotel.

And if you need sleep and peace and quiet, the Arcobaleno is excellent for that, too. Some of the city center locations can be noisy.

And for the business traveler, or the person who wants to stay connected, they offer a 24 hour bank of wifi usage (to be used within 7 days) for 10 Euro, and also have a computer and printer for guest use for free.

So if you don't need to be right in the thick of things, and you want a quiet, pleasant place to stay, I highly recommend the Arcobaleno.

“Very nice hotel”

Stayed there one night. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Air conditioned. Easy parking.

The location is a few miles from the city center so they recommended we drive instead of walk in the summer heat. They recommended a place to park where you could park for the whole day for free.

“One night stay turned into five nights!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2010

A last-minute change in plans while in Tuscany forced my mother and me to find a new place to stay. We headed into Siena from the north looking for any open hotel. At the first place we stopped, it was booked and the receptionist recommended Arcobaleno. Before we checked in, we thought we might stay only one night as we made new plans for our time in Tuscany, but we enjoyed the hotel so much that we stayed five nights!

The hotel is conveniently located near an autostrada entrance and was perfect for launching our daytrips in Tuscany. We went to Siena's city center for one day, and the receptionist, Linda, gave us excellent suggestions for free parking areas. She also recommended a wonderful restaurant for lunch, Papei Trattoria, where we at the tasty local pasta, pici.

Laura, one of the hotel owners, was truly wonderful. She provided excellent service and gave us great recommendations for sightseeing (places that we might have missed on our own). We looked forward to our friendly conversations with her, and her warm sense of humor.

The breakfast is excellent and well stocked each day. And the restaurant below the hotel is convenient and the food is exceptional.

By the end of the trip it felt like home! It was a comfortable, warm place and a real gem. We would definitely stay again.

“Delightful and Comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2010

We stayed here for just one night while traveling through Tuscany. The rooms were clean, well-maintained and comfortable. My mother and I shared a room with 2 twin beds which are really more like nice cots. So they are a little bouncy and quite soft, but these types of beds are common in Italy so we did not mind. The breakfast was a typical light Italian one with pastries, fruit, yogurt and cappuccino. The breakfast room is a sun room with a lovely view and there is a nice patio area with comfortable seating. The parking is right on the backside of the building and it is only 10 minutes drive or less to historic Siena. This place is simple but dependably comfortable for a two star.

“Nice Hotel a Bit Out of the Way”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2010

This is a nice hotel with friendly staff and nice rooms but it's a bit out of town. We had to take cabs into Siena or walk (about a 30 min walk). The breakfast is free and decent (nothing hot). I'd stay here again but might look for something closer to the center of town. This hotel does have parking.
