My husband just spent 19 days touring Italy from North to South and our stay here was disappointing. Upon our arrival, a note was affixed to the front door stating they would be back pronto. 10 minutes later a young lady arrived to check us in. She was very strange and didn't seem to have all her faculties.
Our room was on the second floor over the "lobby" and was pleasant enough and clean if not a little claustrophobic, the shower was the smallest I ever encountered.
What made our stay awful was the the persistent odor and stench of cigarette smoke, ever present. The proprietor is a constant smoker and although there was a sign behind the counter indicating no smoking, apparently it only applied to guests.
We had to put a towel in front of the door to keep the stench of the smoke out.
In the morning we tried to go down for a quick coffee but after going down two flights of stairs through the smoke, we couldn't stand sitting in the basement breakfast room, marinating in the smell.
The first thing I did when we arrived at our next hotel, was take a long shower and wash my hair!

The location the best one just 5 min from the Piazza Del Campo ( the centre of Siena).The room was very comfortable just as a medieval one and very clean.Breakfast serving was very good one with fresh nice bread,fresh coffee etj..The staff are very nice and gentle.I think it is a good place where you can feel yourself well after the trip round Siena.I would recommended every one, who wants to visit Siena a medieval city to go to this hotel,because you can feel as you are in middle age.It is the aim of this travel!!!!.That Mr.or Mrs who has written so badly didn't want to enjoy the medieval hotel they had to go to somewhere!!!

maybe it was just bad luck, but we had no hot water and noone was around the lobby to ask for help. the hotel was left unattended. unbeknownst to us the owner lives across the street. we should have know to call her there if there was a problem. she was apologetic and did the right thing and discounted our rate. no hard feelings. we loved Siena.

I booked this hotel because Arthur Frommer recommended it highly. I just really did not care for it. It was clean, the room was fine but it all felt sort of claustrophobic. Lobby non existent. They provided you with a key to unlock the outer door at night. I did not know if the owner was there, or for that matter anyone else! As I was traveling alone the thought that I might be the only one in the building was unnerving.
The air conditioner was so so with a remote control that was impossible to figure out.
