“Loved Fulvio and Katia”

Though we did not stay overnight , we would love to next time. We spent a 1/2 day with Fulvio and Katia . They gave myself , my husband , my 20 year old daughter and 17 year old son some cooking lessons and a spectacular lunch. what I loved most about Il Vicario was how relaxed and comfortable we felt. My family would not have been on board with a highly formalized cooking school. At Il Vicario we felt right at home, while learning to prepare a rustic and delicious lunch. Taking pictures of my husband making strands of spaghetti were priceless. Most of all we had fun! il vicario was beautiful , I can still smell the rosemary bushes that were growing all around. I would live to have Fulvio and Katia over to my house sometime!, Katia aw spanning a wedding for Fall 2011, we wish her all the best!

“Rustic Tuscany”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

This was the only B & B we stayed in during our 6 week holiday in Europe and so it was a very different experience to the apartments and hotels we had previously stayed in.

The hospitality was lovely with lots of food, wine and plenty of suggestions for where to go. Fulvio loaned us a couple of books for our trip in to San Gimignano which was very helpful. We loved our day in SG and it was a highlight of our trip. We didn't do the cooking class opting instead to drive in to Sienna but in hindsight I wish I had taken the class we returned to see a group thoroughly enjoying themselves and loving the food!

The accommodation was basic but adequate with a small bathroom without much water pressure but this is probably standard for the area. Our only real disappointment was that we were cold. It turned cold the second night we were there (late Oct) and we were informed that they are not allowed to turn the heating on until November. They were apologetic and offered blankets but our friends staying in other accommodation a little later had heating so I am not sure how the regulation works.

I agree that it was difficult to find but not impossible and that you need a car to stay here.

Overall we felt like we got a more authentic experience of Tuscany and we loved the region but we think that in future we might be more comfortable in a hotel or apartment.

“A Great Day!”

My wife and I visited Il Vicario in early September 2011. She had arranged a cooking class with Fulvio and Katia through friends of ours. This was a complete surprise to me and what a wonderful experience it was! We did not experience an overnight stay, so my review is based solely on the warm hospitality and cooking insight I received that day. I have read prior reviews and I want to avoid the repetitive, overall similar, comments concerning our hosts. However, I find this to be difficult. Simply put, Fulvio and Katie welcome you in to their kitchen and make you feel as if it was yours. I enjoy cooking and some of the "little things" I learned that day have allowed me to make others happy when they sit down to try one of my meals. Of course the menu you prepared at Il Vicario is most probably the one you initially prepare when you get back home. I did tell them, afterward, that they should be proud that these menus have been prepared exponentially throughout the world. They played an important role, albeit for 1/2 day or two, in people's lives. You never know how just a moment can be shared by so many people later. Fulvio and Katie are fine hosts and I would happily recommend them, as well as their B & B, to anyone. Good sense of humor, patience, and sincerity come through! Robert & Monika from the U.S.A.

“Amazing!”

My husband and my brother and I stayed here for 3 nights in November. We had signed up for the cooking class and had intended to stay for that night only. We bought a good map from the tourist bureau in San Gimignano and walked the scenic route through olive groves and vineyards to reach Il Vicario. We were immediately captivated by our beautiful location, and greeted by Fulvio's hospitality! I have never had such beautiful wine!!!
Our cooking lesson with Katia was great! We learned so much and amazed ourselves at the beautiful meal we prepared. We have since wowed friends with our tasty Tuscan recipes.

Well, one night turned into 3 nights. My brother and I hiked daily in the beautiful Tuscan hills (with Fulvio's mobile number on hand , in case we got lost), and my husband painted in the surrounding vineyards. After all the busy cities we visited this was just what we were looking for.
Fulvio's cooking each evening was wonderful, and we loved his sense of humor. We felt very at home here and considered it the highlight of our
amazing visit to Italy.

Thanks Fulvio and Katia,

Ann, David, and Johnny

“Fantastic Hospitality”

Location was a little off the beaten path but it was really worth being lost for. Fulvio and Katia's hospitality was unforgettable. Even though we got in at around 11PM, Fulvio was up and waiting for us. He has a witty sense of humor and speaks good English and French. He tells us stories and gives his point of view and recommendations when asked for them. When we were hungry at 10PM, he cooked us a small dinner with no questions asked except what would we like to eat.

I was glad I extended from 1 to 2 nights. Even then, I wished I had more time to spend there.
