“Not bad, not great”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2010

We chuckled a bit when we entered our room, as it was a bit grim but what do you expect for a 2 star hotel? Room size was ok, a bit dully decorated but had everything we needed for a one night stay. Wouldn't have wanted to stay any longer. Thought it was too pricey for what you get.

Location not bad, but Pisa is very small anyway.

“Probably as good a budget hotel as you could expect for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2010

The room was clean and a reasonable size. Bathroom and shower were adequate (the main sink was in the bedroom space). The entrance/reception is striking and modern and we were offered free coffee whilst the room was prepared. Staff were fine and helpful. Breakfast was offered but is not inclusive (and didn't look particularly appealing). I slept 9 hours straight so the beds couldn't have been that bad! Its a 15 minute walk to the Duomo, 10 to the station, so is well located. You'll probably only be wanting to stay one night in Pisa and this is probably as good a budget hotel as you could expect for the price. Recommended.

“Basic but fine for a quick trip/ overnight stay.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2010

The Hotel Astor was quite different in reality to what I had expected from the website but it did the job. Staff were very friendly and helpful and it's within walking distance of the train station. We only stayed one night, en route to Florence. The sights of Pisa can be seen in a few hours and I wouldn't like to have stayed longer. The Campo dei Miracoli is beautiful but there's really not much else there. As for the hotel: The manager was very pleasant, as was another receptionist we met the following day. The room was very small but really clean and the A/C, though a little noisy, was good too. It's a short walk to the main attractions and the station too. Good value for an overnight stay , just don't expect frills.

“Great location, good for one night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2010

Good location, 10 mins walk to the train station. Friendly staff, we went for room without a bathroom, room was clean and bathroom close. We were a bit scared with the 2 star rating it would be grotty but it was absolutely fine. It did get quite hot in the evening as there wasn't any aircon, but at 50 Euros for a double room I would recommend it was a good budget option.

“Perfectly Located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2010

Hotel Astor is perfectly located for anyone who may be using Pisa as their base to explore places withthin 1 hours reach by train. We visited the Cinque Terre and Florence from there. After reading the reviews and finding a special on expedia for this hotel decided that this would be just fine for us as we are not high maintainence people. Just need some place safe, clean and easy to get to. Not disappointed. Airport help desk gave us very good intructions on how to reach hotel. Public Bus from the airport stops with in 2 minutes walk of hotel. Very smooth check in. Room on second floor no elevator.
Room small but tastefully decorated, bathroom very clean with usual supplies. Looked like hotel was readying itself for the upcoming tourist season as they were putting up new drapes in our room and things looked like they had been freshly painted. My only complaint would be about the bed. Too Soft. Anyone with a bad back could possibly have very little sleep as you almost had to find a spot and pray you would stay there for the night. Would have liked 1 english channel on T.V. even if it was just a news channel had fun though watching Italian game show.

Leaning Tower and all major attractions in Pisa are within walking distance of hotel. Train station for our side trips 10 minutes walk at the most. There are small fruit/veg stores across the street and divine icecream parlour around the corner to the right. I would definately stay there again as it suited our needs perfectly.
