“Clean and adequate but slightly overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2009

We found this hotel by chance when forced to stay in Pisa after Ryanair cancelled our flight home due to bad weather. The day receptionists Simone and the lady referred to in other reviews were excellent but John the night receptionist was surly to the point of rudeness. We arranged to leave early in the morning for our re-arranged flight. He was most unhelpful and needs a customer relations course. We were also recommended to the Gallileo restaurant which was good. We also tried the Lissus restaurant across the nearby roundabout and found it very good and quite inexpensive for Pisa. The hotel is noisy if you get a room at the front. No lift is a problem. The room was spotless. We liked the garden and the dog. The hotel is conveniently located for sightseeing. we paid 240 euros for two nights which for a three star seemed a bit excessive.

“Minerva was OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2008

Just back from our stay in Tuscany & our first night was in the Hotel Minerva in Pisa. Having read some of the previous reviews just before we went we were a bit worried about this accomodation but our experience was perfectly satisfactory.
The staff were welcoming & pleasant & our room (on the 2nd floor) was very clean & reasonably spacious. The en-suite was clean & again an adequate size with a double length walk-in shower tho there was a plastic folding door it really didn't matter to us.
There is a small courtyard garden (clean & tidy) at the rear which has 2 tables, umbrellas & chairs where we were able to have coffee when we returned, having had dinner in the town.
Not the most central of hotels but it is just a 10 minute walk from the centre of town & the Leaning Tower etc.
Breakfast was not exciting but was ok & we thought pretty much what you would expect in a continental hotel of this level.
Our only problem here was that our room was on the 2nd floor & there is no lift - but we should have checked this out beforehand, so not their fault!

  • Liked — Cleanliness & comfortable bed
  • Disliked — 4 flights of stairs!

“Disapointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2008

I was really disapointed when I spent a night at Hotel Minerva.

This was our last night in Italy. On the website I had booked the hotel thru, the pictures displayed a really nice garden. When we got there, it was just soil everywhere, with almost no grass...

Regarding the room, the beds were really comfortable. Nevertheless, the bathroom was a joke. The shower was still showing all the work that had been done in it. And the door between the room and th bathroom was in soft plastic...

We didn't have breakfast because we were leaving too early.

“Better to sleep in the train station”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2007

Ridicules to pay so much money (115 Euros) for a sleepless night. We could hear our neighbour snoring the whole night. Bathroom didn’t have a proper door. No lift. Night and morning staff was super unfriendly. (Only exception the middle aged lady in the afternoon who gave us some great tips).

Breakfast was a joke. Didn’t have such bad food elsewhere. If you can avoid it, don’t stay there.

“Good Location, Quiet Room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2006

We went to Pisa with no hotel reservation, which in the first place makes me nervous since I like to check Tripadvisor before booking any hotel! As soon as we got to the train station in Pisa, we started walking around, pulling luggage behind us. We wandered to Hotel Minerva and took a chance. The lady receptionist was very nice to us, telling us we could look at the room before commiting to a reservation. There were 4 of us (2 couples) and she showed us the quad room. It was one double bed and a couch-type of furniture which turns into a bunk bed, or so we were told. We opted to get 2 rooms! The first room was big, comfortable and clean. The 2nd room was small with a long hallway to the door. Since we were only spending one night at the hotel, we didn't complain. The room I had was the smaller one, but it had a nice view of the backyard. I spent a lot of time watching the owner's dog run around in the back (which made me miss my own dog!). The people there are all friendly and very helpful. Be aware that any time you leave the hotel, you must leave your key with the receptionist.
The Leaning Tower is only about 20 mins away by foot. The train station is about a 15 min walk and the Pisa airport is only about 5 minutes by taxi.
Breakfast is served in the morning in the room adjacent to the reception area. There isn't too much of a variety. Just some bread, cheese, ham slices and various fruit drinks. They also serve hot drinks (coffee, tea) from the back. You may find more variety at a cafe in town.
We also tried the recommended Galileo restaurant which was around the corner and down 2 blocks. We had a wonderful dinner there. Their pizzas were fresh and big! The seafood pasta was also delicious. It looked like a lot of locals ordered their pizzas and took them home. One lady walked out with 5 boxes!
