We have just returned from spending 5 days at the Hotel Villa La Reggia and throughly enjoyed our stay. We went on mass, as we were attending a family wedding near by and practically we booked the hotel out with just our families.
It is convienently located not far from the motorway exit of Altopascio and lies on the outskirts of both Altopascio and Spianate. Although this property sits on a main road, it is perfectly protected by trees around the lawn. It is rather quiet and peaceful.
The property is distinctively tuscan in style on the outside, with a lovely bar area which was lovely to sit on and have a drink in the evening. Well manicured lawns and in the middle a lovely swimming pool. Unfortunately we were not able to use this facility as the pool area in not opened until the 1st May.
We were given a family room, which consisted of a double room which set under the eaves of the roof, but the ceiling was by no means low and it was rather spacious. The room had 2 velux windows which were opened by remote control.
The children were in an ajoining room and their bed was a pull out sofa. They had the added advantage of a patio and balcony in their room, which looked over the front lawn. Both rooms the beds were rather comfortable, the first time I have not missed by bed and had a rather restful nights sleep. Both rooms had flat screen tvs with the option of pay per view. Their was a small but adequate mini bar. The bathroom had a shower, bidet , sink and toilet.
The rooms were very clean and we had a maid every day clean and make the beds. There was always an adequate supply of toiletries, slippers and towels. The only thing I would say is that I expected a more tuscan style room seeing the hotel from the outside and was rather dissappointed when the rooms were I would say probably a bit more 80s in deco. The rooms were either a deep sky blue or a orange colour co-ordination. Some of the other double rooms were a bit short on space.
The hotel has a lift to service the two floors. In the basement there is a small compact gym area. Although the equipment is probably not the new, it does the job if you can be bothered to go whilst on holiday! There is also a sauna area. Being in the basement means that it is also cooler.
We had breakfast included in the restaurant in the morning served between 7.30 and 10.00 am. There was ample supply of fresh juices, water, croissants, yogurts, hams, cheeses, biscuits, breads and cereals. There was plenty to keep you going for the day.
We unfortunately never sampled the food in the restaurant, but our relatives who live near by say that the food is very good and they go there themselves. Maybe next time we will get the opportunity.
The staff were very accomodating and really helpful. It was a very family friendly hotel and they could never done enough for you. This is a hotel we will definitely be returning to when in the area and would recommend it to anyone who is either planning a holiday in Tuscany or is just passing through.
It is ideally located for seeing the surrounding areas of Lucca, Pescia, Florence, Pisa. Would recommend car hire, but Altopascio has a train station connecting to all main areas. Would recommend Pinnocchio Park in Collodi for those with small children.
On a whole we had a great stay at the hotel and hope to return soon.
