We decided to transfer to Lucca at the last minute and pulled our our trusted
Rick Steves Italy guide to find a hotel. He listed La Luna and I called to make a reservation for two rooms for the next night. Sarah answered (as Rick said she would) and was very gracious, reserving the rooms for a very discounted rate and breakfast the next day. When we arrived in Lucca the next day and saw the narrow medieval streets, we wondered if it was safe to drive in, so we walked in to visit with the Information office first. They assured us we could drive to La Luna (enter the walls, turn right then left - you will see it there!). HA! The instructions were so simple, yet so difficult. We were asking directions every 400 feet!
And the streets were so narrow and difficult to navigate! Yikes! But we made it and thank goodness, they had a garage for parking and took the keys from us at the reception desk. When we began the walk up the narrow, tight stairway to our second floor rooms we were a bit apprehensive, but once we got to our rooms - they were spacious, clean and well equipped. Thank goodness! Breakfast was standard, but certainly adequate. Sarah, Isabella and Paul were wonderful staff members (and members of the family that owns the hotel - Sarah is the owners daughter, Isabella his sister), talking with us and providing wonderful complimentary wine in the evening as we sat in their lobby and played cards. They told us stories of their Christmas celebrations (we stayed December 12), and shared about the traditions and customs of the area. Paul was so sweet the next morning as we checked out, helping to load our car and kissing us ladies on the cheeks with a flourish and a "Buon Natale!". It was just the right place to stay for the night in Lucca - so glad we found it and made the reservation!
