There were 17 of us staying here for about a week in June and our visit couldn't have been lovelier. We chose Fiesole instead of in Florence proper for my elderly mother who wanted a country feel while having easy access to the city. The Pensione Bencista offered us this. It worked out well-- we could easily sight-see in Florence or visit other Tuscan towns-- but when we wanted downtime, it was a pleasure to spend time sitting in the pensione's beautiful garden or one of the well furnished common rooms and read. It is true, what others say about the roads being a bit harrowing at times, but we expected this in a Tuscan hillside town. The buses ran regularly and the staff couldn't be more accommodating helping us get around and procuring bus tickets for us. They even drove my mother to the bus stop when we asked so she wouldn't have to walk too far. They went above and beyond-- serving dinner to family members who arrived after the dinner hour when they missed their train, finding space for my nephew who decided to come at the last minute, getting us train schedules for upcoming travel, etc.. The owners and staff were always gracious and kind. Yes it got hot at times, but there was a ceiling fan which cooled our room down. I believe most of the complaints on this site were by those who are used to luxury accommodations and though Bencista is beautiful in so many ways, it is not a luxury resort. Our family wanted an atmospheric and comfortable hotel, the Pensione Bencista gave us that and we had a wonderful stay.
