We felt like we were being greeted and cared for by friends from the moment my 78 year old mother-in-law and I arrived. From the cappachino waiting for us to the special Easter cake served in the morning, we felt more like guests than weary travelers. The rooms were spotless and comfortable, and the breakfast in the morning had a good variety of nutritious and appetizing choices, not to mention the "best cappachino in Florence" served by Tomas. The location was steps from a central plaza, safe and quiet.

My friend and I stayed in this hostel while in Florence. We had a room with 4 or 5 other females. I was lucky because every girl in the room was very friendly and considerate of other people. The room was about 28 Euros a night which I thought was worth it. The room was very clean and had a private bathroom/individual lockers. I was there in July and the room was hot! They did put a fan in which helped a little but it still was not enough to cool it down. They had breakfast included in the morning and even great coffee and cappuccino to choose from. I liked the fact they had free wifi! From the Florence train station the place was a little hard to find (the sign is small and we didn’t know where the street was exactly) but we got there eventually. The location was good- short walk from Duomo and other historical sites. However, I did not see too many places nearby to enjoy the nightlife. We ended up going to a place right next to the Duomo for a World Cup game and it was a lot of fun. The hostel had a kitchen and they let us store food in a refrigerator. The staff was super friendly and gave great advice! There were computers and a bunch of guidebooks to help plan your day. A bus that goes to the train station and other places was almost right across the street. I am glad we stayed here!

This hostel is a lovely place, staffed by friendly helpful staff. The rooms were clean, the bathrooms were spotless and the breakfast was good, including excellent coffee. Our only complaint were the bedbugs that attacked one of our party. To the hostel's credit, they dealt with the problem promptly and were very apologetic when we told them, and they left us in no doubt that they would be fixing the problem as soon as possible.

when you are traveling by yourself, the most important thing is to be in a place with good vibes.
the hostel Gallo D´oro is that place!
cleaning the rooms, breakfast, all great! but more important is that you feel at home.
