“great family-run hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2011

We were always greeted warmly upon arrival or return to the hotel by the staff and their children. One of the girls even helped with bringing in the luggage to our room. The room was clean, relatively spacious and with all the basic toiletries. Air-conditioning worked well (very important for the summer). The beds were a bit creaky (not a problem for most people unless you are a light sleeper like me). The breakfast was reasonable in variety and buffet-style. The second-best part of the hotel after the warmth demonstrated by the staff is its location - 3 min walk from the Florence S.M.N. train station, and with obvious walking routes to the major sights in town. A side note: there was an advertisement from Walkabout Tours which featured a "Best of Tuscany" tour, which we booked at the last minute with the kind help of the hotel staff. That turned out to be a highlight of our short stay at Florence.

Room Tip: first 30min of internet usage is free

“Wonderful, relaxed place with warm hospitality.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2011

I so enjoyed Hotel Angelica. My room was perfect with plenty of room and a clean bath. The owners are helpful and gracious and the breakfast was one of the best I've had.
Close to the train station without being noisy, and within walking distance to many sights.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2011

Location and room is not bad.
Bathrooms don't drain[shower area was full for hours].Windows do not open, can get stuffy as air conditioner is not adequate.
Hotel closes at midnight and guests are not given the keys, hence late nights are out of the question

“Perfect Place to Explore Florence on a Budget”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2010

We were fortunate to be given the Quad room on our 2 nights stay in Florence. The room was very big for the two of us, very clean and the bathroom is new. Breakfast was included and good enough to start our day. It's very close to the train station which was my main reason for choosing it. We don't have to drag our luggage too far. It is located on the 4th floor with an old fashioned elevator. I'm glad there was an elevator as I dreaded climbing up those stairs. The owners are very nice. The place felt secure. We walked all over Florence. Going to Piazza Michelangelo across the Arno river by foot was quite far. There were a lot of stairs to climb up to reach the top of the hill but the view is Amazing! You can see all over Florence. I was thinking, I couldn't possibly walk all the way back to the hotel and then we saw the public Transit Bus. It goes back to the train station and we gladly hop on and paid 2 euros each. The ride took 30 mins. back to the train station. This is an option if you don't want to walk which we didn't know then. Don't miss this opportunity to see the view. It's really worth the pain!

“Odd room, friendly staff, good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2010

We mainly chose this hotel due to its proximity to Santa Maria Novella station - the rest of Florence is within walking distance anyway. It's on the third floor of a building, there are separate hotels on other floors so check the brass plaques before you go up. There is an awesome retro lift with the self-service closing doors that is like the one in the Matrix. If you're in a group or wheelchair it would be several trips.
Room is clean and tidy, spacious enough. We where offered a choice of two rooms and went with upstairs, I think it was previously an attic but had a skylight and good ventilation. There is a TV in the room with a range of satellite channels although it's tiny. Plenty of unpacking space and a good wardrobe for hanging up clothes. Separate bathroom was very clean and had plenty of amenities. Rooms are labelled 'private' (no numbers) so not sure how you'd find it drunk or something. You would need to check when/if reception closes as you need to be buzzed in to get through the security door.
I think it's a husband and wife team running it and they are quite friendly, very helpful with pointing out laundromats, restaurants etc. in the local area. They have wifi and a computer you can use but otherwise no services on site. For entertainment there is a roof terrace but it's pretty lame and the view is obstructed (see photo).
Breakfast was pretty basic: cereal, yoghurt, some pastries, juice, tea and coffee. All bundled in for 90 euro per night, I wouldn't pay separately for the breakfast. Not sure what that buys you in the area in early May.
